My chickens are getting spoiled this summer. They have been getting all the unwanted items from the garden, and they are loving it. They got lettuce and spinach that went to seed a month ago. They've been getting all the green bean "snaps", any oversized cucumber too big for my tastes, and any split tomatoes I come across. All of my hens come running to the edge of the run when they hear or see me coming, waiting for their treats. Great treats for them, less feed for me. It all works out.
