How much do tattoos cost ? How do you find a reputable artist ?

I want a small Ohm symbol on one ankle and/or three sets of chick footprints on the other (representing my three grandchildren).
You would think at my age I would just go ahead and do it, but my DH is adamantly against it.

One topside was done at Randy Adams, took all of 30 minutes, by Chance... think it was around $50, but that was a good 12 years ago.

The lower back and hip were done by a friend of the family so no charge...

In other words no clue what's typical pricing for tats nowadays. But if memory serves it seems like I recall seeing a note about minimum $30 or $50 or something??

This is what I do when I scope out a shop.

Go on line and reseach the tattoists... see examples of their work an if they even have the skills to do the job to your expectations. For basic, tattoos, like a tribal, good line work is a must. But for a portrait, they have to be better than me when it comes to drawing (and I'm pretty darn good!). I want work done by this guy some day.. http://bobtyrrell.com/

Next visit the shop...is it clean and presentable? Go check out the bathrooms, if they're gross, leave!! Review the binders of the tattoists in the shop if you like the place. Make sure they sterilze their equipment or use new needles.

Most shops are regulated by the state (at least they are in MI). So ask to see their certification ... which should be displayed.

Most have a 50$ minimum...may charge extra for art/design work if they have to create the tattoo for you.... I spent about $350 for the 3 in my photos above. (I got a discount on my lower back tattoo because my DH and 3 other friends booked the whole day with the tattooist). You should also budget and plan to TIP the tattooist as a sign if appreciation for their work, they're not getting all that money you paid on the tattoo... once you establish a relationship with the tattooist, they will cut you deals and it's a great experience. Most of the guys that have worked on me have been very kind and fun to work with. The tattooist that did my Korn Tattoos was teasing me for cheating on him, by having my other tattoo done by someone else...LOL!

I'm deeply unbalanced! LOL! all on the right, nothing on the left. Must remedy that!

But, married 14 years, hardly a tramp! DH does like it though.

Heres mine, it almost cost me my life! i got blood poisoning & cellulitis from it! stayed in the hospital over a week! I.V. antibiotics & all......never again!!!
