Tax miles/not gas??

Government is misusing our money at just about every turn. The answer is not more taxes, it's time to wean the government off our money we work so hard for.

Every community could have volunteer road and bridge repair crews. everybody that drives could volunteer 2 days a month to fix roads. We could contribute 100.00 a month towards it. Then we could have a volunteer sheriffs dept and do the same thing and of course if you are rural you already have a volunteer fire dept, but instead of the county paying for equipment we could contribute.

It seems like we need govt. I agree they spend money in wasteful manners but there's not much you can do about that unless you want to be on your city council and help decide where local funds will go. That's what representative govt is all about. Then when they do something you disagree with you can b***h about it but that's about it. There will always be lobbyist or something equal.

The fact is that when gas use went down as it needs to, there were less funds available to repair roads. Gas tax is a set amount per gallon regardless of price. The cost of repairing roads is not going down. So more money has to come from another source or the gas taxes have to be raised.

I belive there is plenty of money going out there to do what needs to be done. Its just the goverment loves to have thier perks, and spend money tax payers money on They get enough of my money already. Its easy to waste money, you dont have to work for.

Good point why dont we volanteer all of our money to the gov then we could live on what they give us and everyone would be equal that has worked in the past hasn't it

The point was that if we had to provide all the services our selves we would be real hard pressed. So we don't have much choice but to pay taxes.

Well, call me crazy, but I dont want anyone to know every step I make. It's none of their business if I go to a feedstore or to the library or Walmart. We do not own cellphones or newer cars with GPS or ONStar on them. And I dont want any car with a tracking device on it, ever. Dont want to know where my friends are every minute of their day, either, like that locator program on the cellphones they're pushing now. So, they'd have to go by the odometers on our two ancient vehicles. And only driving maybe 2000 miles a year total between the two, not sure how much $$ they'd get off us anyway.

If they did the GPS thing it would just be a computer that totals mileage based on where you travel. It's doubtful there would be a record of it. Can you imagine how much space that would take up. How many millions of cars are in the USA. It sounds like it would be cost prohibitive.

Companies that put GPS's in their fleet vehicles do so to track where employees are at. It helps with liability issues as well as to be sure the driver is where he's supposed to be vs getting a little afternoon delight. The vehicles belong to them and they have the right to do it. It's no worse than urinalysis testing. Don't think Uncle Sam will be doing that.

OnStar is basically just a GPS unit anyway, so those vehicles that have that component can already be tracked. If they can find you in an accident or unlock your doors, they can find you anytime and know everywhere you've been.

As long as yo haven't done anything illegal it shouldn't be a problem , but I know what you mean. I don't like the big brother thing either. Of course they could say it's to combat terrorism then it will be acceptable (NOT).
