taxing on homegrown food????

I certainly would NOT jump on a bandwagon and pay to keep my chickens. Cuba is still a dictatorship. These united States are a Constitutional Republic. NOT a democracy,,,,,,,,a Republic. The problem with our "freedoms" bieng flushed down the toilet, is we ALLOW it to happen. You / we need to hold the elected elite's feet to the fire. In this country we are Kings each and every one of us that are natural born citizens.

Yeah, really, don't be too quick to offer $50. We are already paying property taxes.

I'm just hoping that with the economy situation as bad as it is now and getting worse, more and more people will look at ways to grow at least part of their food. And as our numbers increase, we, the food growers, will become more powerful force to stop excessive taxation.

I agree with everyone.....really, and believe me, I hold on to every penny I can. But like someone mentioned earlier, if you don't pay a fee, you might pay a fine.....big difference sometimes. I don't have fees yet, but a lot of our friends do already. I guess that I just basically have a very negative feeling toward the overall direction we are possibly going. In fact a lot of my non-chicken raising friends have indicated to me that they have noticed a huge increase in the # of people trying to live their lives in a similar fashion to what I have been living for much of my life and they claim its because of fears and concerns of possible hard times, either due to government related or collapse in the economy or other such failures......some are religious about it and claim 'end times.'
At work when one of my chicken friends start talking about her problems and I tell her how I solved a similar problem, it instantly arouses attention and everyone is our captive audience. We both end up giving lessons to everyone on the benefits of the old ways. More and more people are just indicating to me that they have a negative outlook on our future, as a whole.

I think most of us would be willing to pay 50 dollars a year, if necessary, for the right to keep our chickens

The idea that we have to pay a fee for the right to do something harmless on our own property is one of the reasons we are in a downward spiral.

Do any amount of googling and you will see - there is no possible tax on backyard gardens nor has there ever been.

Gee, I guess that you aren't aware of the permit fees that many have to pay ready to own chickens or other animals. I could see municipalities starting to require people to buy a permit for a garden too. Like I said before, many people are already taxed to own a cat or dog. They call it a licensing fee, but it really is a pet tax.

Permit fees for chickens are not the same thing as an imaginary tax on growing your own tomatoes. Yes, I am aware of them - many of the cites my bf has been applying for jobs have them enacted. Not the same thing though.
