taxing on homegrown food????

It's not the same thing, but it's the next logical step. Government is too involved in people's everyday lives. There may not be a bill currently pending, but you can bet that big government and agribusiness would love it. Personally, I think that local governments are the ones that will eventually enact more stupid ordinances and require permit fees (taxes) on more and more things and activities.

I happen to agree with basic pet license fees (obv not for chickens) for dogs and cats. When you have a neighbor's dog trying to get into your chicken run - you call your local animal control. That is where those fees go. When I owned a dog, I had it licensed so when it broke loose and ran amok, I would get a phone call to come pick it up.

I don't agree with adding them for chickens, but I know in some districts, where local citizens have lobbied for the rights to have backyard chickens, the addition of these fees were what 'tipped the scale' to allow them within city limits.

"The fee you pay for your Dog License and license renewal keeps your city's animal shelter going. It is one of the primary sources of revenue for Animal Care and Control, so it can continue to provide its unique services all citizens, from finding new homes for unclaimed or surrendered pets to keeping neighborhoods safe from aggressive dogs, from caring for animals whose owners have died to teaching good pet care to school kids."

If you have to pay for a "right", it's not much of a right. I hate having to pay a fee to have dogs. I WON'T pay a fee to have chickens. As far as I'm concerned, any fee levied by the government is a tax.

omg. I was out of cracked corn and left to deal with that and to pick up a few logs to split at a co-worker house and I got home to about 15 more posts than I left with and from what I can make out it looks like it might have gotten rough in my leave. Well, like the teachers used to say,"you can't please all the people, all the time." Well I sleep real good at night and I wish everyone the same. I missed everything. Someone must be looking out for me. Maybe I would have logged on and got my feelings hurt. Peace.

Well, all taxes, fees, laws and ordinances ARE politically inspired by their very nature, I would submit that a " Local Chicken Laws & Ordinances (and how to change them)" forum might very well be counter productive!......Unless of course only certain political views, statements or opinions are considered taboo ?
