they'll probably start by going by the mileage every year when you get your registration renewed,,, but even that is different in every state..

and i had a 72 chevy truck in 1995 that ive had since it had 20,000 miles on it,, when i got rid of it,, i had 22,000

I read about this in several places. They will have cars equipped with GPS tracking devices that give them that info and also even where you are driving. If you are driving highways or back roads. That really freaked me out. It would be intruding on my personal freedom. I do not want such a device in my car.
They said at first info would be limited to downloading info at gas pumps to pay the taxes until something better is worked out. At some point they will know our every move. I don't like that idea at all of the governamant having tracking devices in my car

mileage is mileage,, if they tax you say .005 cents a mile,, you get charged for every mile,, they cant tell the difference between "hospital" miles, and "enjoyment" miles..

No we are just going to be paying the HIGHEST gas tax in the nation.
Duval is pushing to have the gas tax he wants voted on within the week.
I would RATHER be charged by my milage. My dh takes the commuter rail to work daily and I work within the city we live in. If pressed we can take the train to visit family that lives closer to Boston and on the South Shore.
what made me laugh the most was the "if we raise the gas tax Blah waont happen." One of the "Blahs" that supposedly wont happen.? The MBTA wont raise fares. Yeah. Right. As it is it already costs us nearly $300 a month for the commuter rail pass. It wont go up. Sure it wont.

I only wish we lived THAT much closer to NH. I would gladly drive over the border weekly or whatever to buy gas across the state line. Right now I am looking at getting a bike for the summer. with luck, when the gas tax goes into effect. it will get all the morons off the road and I wont feel like I am taking my life into my hands riding my bike on the streets around here.

not only that. But the cities have already cut busing because fuel was so expensive. Do the politicians really think that it's going to stay around $2 a gallon forever? They add the higher gas tax and even more bus routes are going to be cut. All the other city and state owned vehicles will be stuck as well. DPW, the garbage trucks, the police cruisers. And I can just hear Unitil now! Gas has gone up. we need to raise the customers rates to be able to have our trucks out there. Yeah. out there to shut off power and gas because people wont be able to afford it.

I didnt like Duval when he was running. I am glad I voted against him.
Yet another reason why I want out of this state. I want my own self sufficient place with veggies and solar and wind power.

From what I read Obama pretty much nixed the idea. However, it is scary that they're even considering it. To me it sounds like one more way to tax the poor and let the rich off scott free. I also don't like the idea of having a GPS unit installed in my car for government purposes. To me it sounds Orwellian.

I heard from CNN that Pres. Obama would NOT consider it nor would he sign for it. Everyone would go broke if we do that and the gas companies will start whining about not getting enough money.

Taxing mileage would defeat the purpose of high gas mlg cars. Why should someone with small car that gets 40 mpg pay the same tax per mile that someone driving an Excursion that gets 11 mpg. The whole GPS thing is ridiculous too. These guys need their butts plugged so they will quit pulling ideas like that out of them.

I don't think this is about energy conservation. It's to supplement the states that are broke.

I think it's a really stupid idea .......sure reminds me of big brother.

Chicago is going to install cameras on every street lamp in that town. Creepy.
