My grandfather gave me a couple old computers. One of them is a Dell with a late Pentium 4 Presshot CPU (I think) and the other a early Core i3 HP. The Dell functions, thought the motherboard has terrible expandability (a single PCIe 1x slot and two PCI slots) and the HP has a dead power supply (it clicks every second and does not turn on).

Do you have BYC on some of the older PCs? If so, lol this is a dumb question but does it look the same or is it an older version? It would look the same but still.
I have used BYC on a old Northwood Pentium 4 PC I have. With Supermium it manages to scrape by, load BYC, and have a passable experience for a 20-year-old PC. I still need to try that on the newer Prescott one though.

OK. Hold on. What version of Windows is it running?
If it's running XP or Vista, it won't update. This might work but I have not tried it: https://legacyupdate.net/.

Supposedly it works for Windows 7, which does have update issues as well.

I presume you're using XP, based off of the specification of 2005.

I tell my son IT is why I have him.
He tells me his middle name is not "help desk"
Yes he did go to Uni twice to get pieces of paper that say he is a Super Geek.
I've turned into a help desk for my family. Usually more helpful too since I know just about everything regarding their PCs.
