Tech Nerd Ramblings

I've turned into a help desk for my family. Usually more helpful too since I know just about everything regarding their PCs.
You need to set those boundaries early. I won't do tech support for anyone but my Mom and the devices that live on my network. Everyone else gets told to google it.

Most of the times it's either Nana (who gets the help because she's Nana), a little sibling (who have been recently told to figure it out instead of my useful helpings since I've shown them millions of times), or CC because her screen protector got damaged. Since my siblings happen to live with a mega tech nerd of some kind, I tend to try sharing as much of that info as possible so they don't bother me as much.

If it's running XP or Vista, it won't update. This might work but I have not tried it: https://legacyupdate.net/.

Supposedly it works for Windows 7, which does have update issues as well.

I presume you're using XP, based off of the specification of 2005.
It is running Windows 7 currently.

It was acting like it wanted to update but it said there was an error with the updating website(Microsoft)
It needs the Windows Update Agent update. I believe it's somewhere on the MS website. Look it up. That and Service Pack 1 if you don't have that already.

Well, running any old unsupported version of Windows (8.1 or newer) is a security risk. But getting it up do date should be fine.
It's not a big deal. Just don't put it on the internet. Hide it behind your isp router.
