Tell me about Bantam egg laying, please

I scrolled through some replies and just wanted to say that Bantams are the size (small) not the breed of chicken. So its the breed of chickens you are looking for if you're look for good egg layers. The eggs of bantams of course are smaller than standard chickens about 1/2 the size. So in my case I have 3 Silkie Bantam hens and 1 Bantam Roo. The Silkies lay eggs every day one a piece but they tend to brood constantly.. You have to be fast to get the eggs out or they are sitting on them. They have hatched 3 eggs so far, 2 hens 1 roo. something interesting, I found the Silkies don't roost, something I didn't know but their babies do. The bantams are good if you have a small area and want chickens obviously because they are small and my roos crow is very slight compared to a standard roo.

This is the thread that never dies, so I though I'd chime in and keep up the tradition.

My Easter Egger bantams laid VERY well, like almost every day- but I didn't keep them past their pullet year. Also they were very talkative and I'd like to own some again one day.

Thread that never dies, it is! I need this recipe and how do you save the eggs??? :D
I have two Buff Cochin Bantams and they both lay 6-8 eggs a week. I have been saving up my banty eggs JUST for pickling, they are smooth and creamy and just delightfully Delicious little eggs!!!
65 bantam eggs made three beautiful quart jars around twenty eggs per jar...People just rave about them! here is a pick of my last jar, but I have enough saved up to do more.

My Dutch and OEGB girls lay white eggs that are about 2/3 the size of my Barred Rocks' eggs, maybe a little smaller. (My Barred Rocks lay medium-sized eggs, not the double-yolked ones you'll sometimes find being sold by backyard-raisers.)

Is it true that the OEGBs are poor layers? I read one website that claimed they only lay like once a week. I have always thought they were cute.

My barnyard mix bantam lays for 4 days, takes a day off then lays for another 4 days. So we get about 6 eggs a week from her and she just started laying in February. I have also never had a soft shelled egg, They have all been perfect medium sized green eggs. And she eats basically no feed-she gets whatever she needs from free ranging in our backyard and begging from my husband when he sits outside with all of the chickens. She is also extremely friendly and spunky. She is the top chicken and even keeps our full sized roo in check when he gets too snappish with the other girls who aren't laying yet and don't want his manly attentions. I think if you are penning your chickens exclusively you will spend more for less eggs. The other plus is that they tend to be amazing mothers. My sisters best two mommies were bantam silkie/barnyard blends. One of them hatched out a batch of 13 eggs! The other hens just kept laying in her nest box and she accepted the challenge.

My swwet little silkie, Blanch started laying this week (8 1/2 months old) I got 5 silkies and ended up with only one hen.
She gave me 5 beautiful eggs this week. I was surprised how big they were. So proud of her. Now how do I teach her to lay them in the box instead of on the floor of the coop?
