Tell me about your "pop" /chicken door.

Here is my pop door

Mine's 10x12ish, it's also different from alot of what I've seen here in that it pivots instead of sliding up.

The string that pulls it up runs through the coop to the outside world.

Here are some pictures of my pop door. Click on any image for a larger view.

Here are pictures of how I routed the pull.

The yellow thing is a led weight pull with Yellow shrink tube over it. It keeps the door from shutting. Lift up to shut, pull down to open.

I have a sliding door my DH built the track on the inside and it has a pulley system. It is weighted with a pvc pipe which is filled with sand this way I don't have to worry about the door falling and beheaded one of my babies.
If it ever stops raining I'll go out and take a picture

I never thought of using the old window weights for the pop door. Great idea!!! Will have to talk to the dh about upgrading the door.

Right now I have to go into the run to open the door. It opens up and out and latches to the roof of the run. I really want a sliding door there though.

What I'm most curious about is this - what keeps a clever animal from prying up the door? I've got a pop door that runs up the inside of the coop wall, and it slides down below a lip, but is that really safe?

I'd be very interested in seeing your pic of this. I think I have seen greenhouse doors which used a brick on a rope as a counter weight that automatically closed the door.

I have lifted my pop door when the first line I had on it broke. Actually it wasn't all that easy to lift from the botton. I grabed where the line attaches to the door. I wonder if a critter would figure that out?
