Tell me about your sweet gentle roosters!

This is Ludwig, my Black Langshan rooster who just turned 1.

He's fairly good with the ladies, gentle around chicks, and has never made the slightest aggressive move toward me.

He's very tall, but not as heavy as a Brahma. Some of the hens are getting a bit naked, but neither he nor Ramses, the Blue Australorp, are rough with them. Just normal wear.

Speaking of Ramses, at 8 months he's quite well behaved too and the two fellows are, at least so far, getting along well.

I don't make pets of my males and I make a point of walking through them regularly. I don't chase them or in any way attempt to interfere with them, I just *happen to* have something to do on the other side of the pen beyond the rooster and I make him move out of my way as I approach instead of going around him.

I am not part of the flock pecking order. I am the giant who brings food and I want them to treat me like a horse or a cow or a force of nature rather than a chicken.
Ludwig looks adorable! I like chickens with those black beady eyes, somehow it makes them look friendlier.

He was a little over a year when died, he was at least a third bigger than his ladies. He only liked my australorps and Columbian wyandottes though, wouldn't touch the barred rocks and couldn't catch the sussex. I almost ordered another brahma but our ground here is just too hard on their feathered feet.
That is very young - poor thing!

Ok, guys - I feel that for a roo to qualify as a really good boy, he has to have a certain age… at least two, better three years - really the older the better. I have read too many stories of young roos turning bad after a couple of years. Mine was like that, too! I had no complaints the first few years, though he was never fantastic with the hens… Excellent at tidbitting and herding them to safety or into the run and coop at night, just so so with mounting, very few would willingly submit to him…
Anyway, where are the older excellent roos? :)

My older rooster (he is just over a year old) is named Blue, and he is just the perfect rooster. All of his girls like him, he is very protective, but he also respects us and allows us to do anything with the hens. He’ll usually keep his distance, and he doesn’t mind being held. He was raised by a broody hen, and she did most of the work on raising him up to be a kind and respectful boy. I would be beyond surprised if he ever attacked us.
