Tell your 'what the heck was that thing?' scary story

Quote:
OOOOO, I saw a few specials about that on TV. Scary! I think it was MONSTERQUEST on History, and Destination Truth on SYFY.
And all my life I grew up living down a dead end road that in the summer would be corn on both sides, and my house was surrounded by corn directly on two sides, with just a gravel road between the fence and corn field on the third side and the actual road between the house and the fourth cornfield. Now I just moved to a house with woods on two sides and cornfields on the other two! (praying for soybeans this year!)

Both of my children were really creeped out by 'Children of the Corn'. They are grown now and it still creeps them out. My son could not stand crows either. So where did he decide to go to college? Kansas...the world capitol of crows and corn...

Why do you guys start topics that suck me in for 27 pages I have a few "what was that" and since I have nothing better to do you guys get to hear them.

When I was a kid I don't know if I was more in tune with the other side or if our house was just haunted but I was always seeing "things" but they never seemed to see me but I would follow them and then they would just disappear in to the wall or into thin air at times it would seem the one that always intrigued me was the one that had the same silhouette as my dad before he got "fat" for lack of a better wording. I would hear him whispering but I could never make out what he was saying.
As in tune as I was as a kid I haven't had anything like those experiences that I had as a kid even though I now live in a hundred year old house across the street from the cemetery. Also my work at times brings me close to those from the past (I am an archaeologist) I have had several coworkers how have had encounters that have really bothered them. That being said I am more then OK with not having any recent dealing with those from another place and time.

Still the scariest story that I know wasn't about the unknown but about the unknown people can do. It didn't happen to me but to my mom when she was about 12 living on a dairy in rural ID. It was the end of the season when all the migrate workers were getting ready to leave the area I guess some had broken down in front of the turn off to my moms house. When a guy came up to them and asked for the car- he was a murderer from CA. He then took the guys out of the car and shot each of them in the back of the head only to find out the car was broken down. However one of the victims he shot survived and run up to my mom's house where she and her family took care of him- they were able to get the doctor to come over. But they couldn't get a hold of the local sheriff and there was no 911 so with the victim worried about his friends my mom's dad and the doctor took off down the road to confront the killer. They left my grandma and the rest of my moms family at home even though they did have locks on the doors. I remember my mom telling me each kid was given a gun and told to shot anything that moved. Luckily when they confronted the man who was still sitting in the broken down car he was out of bullets so after a brief fight the doctor knocked him out and they were able to get the guy under control till the sheriff from the next county was able to come and get him. The fear she still carries from then is scary and I can feel every time I hear the story.

Sorry if this story doesn't make the hair on the back of your neck prickle but in my mind those from other detentions and those things that go bump in the night are scary but they can rarely physically hurt you. However the evil trapped inside a living human can be much more scary. Now off to bed.

MFB's little person story reminded me of one I have to tell...

So back when I was a teenager, the home we lived in was purchased from some family friends, who moved out of state and then came back to San Diego. During one period, I would frequently see shadow people of various shades and sizes. Smaller dwarf-sized shapes and taller man-sized shapes, sometimes grey, sometimes black. I wasn't fond of the grey shapes, but the black shapes gave me the creeps. I also started seeing little people, just out of the corner of my eye, repeatedly. They were about a foot tall, maybe 18" at most, with grey-colored skin. Their heads were large. Not the same ratio as if a man-sized person was shrunk down to a foot. It was more like an apple-sized head, stuck on a small, thin barbie-sized body. What really caught my eye though was their hair. They had troll hair. Not like they were bright pink and green, but that they had some wacky hair, the same color as their body, sticking out inches away from their heads in all directions. I really didn't give much thought to seeing these little people and would just go on about whatever I was doing. Until one day when I was sitting in Chemistry and out of the corner of my eye I see a little person! I looked at it directly, stared for a few moments and saw it clearly, looked away and thought to myself "OMG, they followed me to school!". I looked back again and it was gone. I finally decided it was time to mention it to my mom and I had been seeing all these different things. I don't remember the order anymore, but either right before and right after I told my mom about what I had been seeing, my sister went to my mom and told her she was seeing things too!

We were still in contact with the son of our family friends, his room was actually my room. Days later, he came over and my mom decided to ask him if he had ever seen anything unusual in the house. He told her about how one night he was sleeping and woke up to see a small grey person with big hair, watching him from next to his bed. He grabbed the little person by their hair and shook them around and then fell back asleep. He woke up the next morning and just assumed he had been dreaming.

My mom decided to pray for the little people, not that they would leave, but if we could co-habitate nicely. She had a dream that night that the little people got together and were surprised that someone had prayed for them and decided that they would no longer bother us. We didn't see any little people after that, though I swear I saw another one the other day at work.

That story was great, and surprizingly not creepy to me. I don't think that would creep me out unless they starting moving stuff and playing pranks. The fact that they left after someone prayed and thought about them gave me an "awwwww" moment.

Those "little people" hang around MY house all the time....but they aren't "gray".

They all wear either green or orange suits and also sport "iron-jaw" beards. They talk a strange old language and
they always steal and drink my beer.

I think that they might be IRISH.
