temminicks tragopan

Here is the thread I was referring to: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/755491/peacock-pheasant-questions

The endangered species permit is free, unlike the permits required for migratory waterfowl. I do not believe that the greys are endangered. There are other pheasant species on the endangered species list. I think both of them lay clutches of two eggs, one the PP that only has one egg clutches that I know of is the Bornean Peacock Pheasant since I love them and have researched them. There were some GPP hatching eggs on eBay, so it is a good thing I did not buy any. Tony down in the pheasants department poly wraps his pens and his greys do fine. There are pictures of his hen and chicks in the thread that is linked above. I am pretty sure they are good broodies too unlike some pheasants.

Greys need heat as well and they are not on the endangered species list. I am thinking that the grey chicks must eat on their own from the start otherwise they wouldn't be selling the eggs on Ebay LOL and that seller got good money for those eggs LOL

Frenchy you want to laugh

I was digging into the palawan on google and I came to a link for ebay uk and someone was selling palawan eggs and it was private listing so you cannot see who is bidding but if you go to the feedback the people said the eggs that hatched were not pheasants LMFAO! If people did a little research on what they are bidding on they would see that the sellers would not sell the eggs of a rare bird when they can get 2-4 times as much for the actual 6 month old pair LOL

I couldn't let them go by me, they were $99 for the 2 with free shipping & box. A friend of mine has either red or yellow hens I do not remember but we will see LOL

Yoda,I have a flock of ornamental pheasants here,Yellow,Dark Red Throats,Lady Amherst and Red Goldens. You can run 3 hens per male, and they will fight each other if both males are in the same breeding pens with hens,so you will need 2 seperate pens for them for breeding.Gamebird feed at 22% is good along with wild bird feed,They like seeds as well. Hens start laying here in Illinois in mid-late March and stop in June but when my males gets new tails, the hens sometimes begin laying again in September. I've never tried to incubate them to see if they are good cause I'm burned out from peafowl eggs every week and the bators about to be shut off.I've never tried to see if the pheasant hens will try and incubate their own eggs, although I had one poor red golden hen last year that sat for over 45 days, and none hatched for her. They can get really tame. My Yellow male is 6 years old now and hops on my arm when I reach in the pen to feed and water. I run my Lady Amherst and Red Goldens in with my peacocks in their breeding pens. I do have one coop epecially built that is 6' wide and 14' long divided in half where my dark red throats and yellows are kept. There is a box,or enclosure at one end, about 3'x2' for them to get into but even in the coldest windiest days here, they are outside. The floor is hardware cloth, sides are 1/2"x1' welded wire. The enclosure is wood flooored and the hens seems to lay most of their eggs inside the box area.they are sometimes loud during the spring, but nothing like peacocks. The males will make a quick loud squeek noise and normally late afternoons, early mornings is when they are making the noises.Daytime they are pretty calm.

Do you ever have any tragopans for sale? Do you ship them? I acquired a male and need a female for him! Im having a tough time finding any for sale, I live a Oregon.

What does everybody feed their tragopans???
You will get answers in the pheasants section.

I was planning on selling this year but lost my breeder hen a few days ago and left with a male. He was my original male, and I had him alone for quite some time before getting more. Just use that time to get him really friendly.
