Wowzers those are very brightly colored

how big are they?
I will call them fire-birds cause they look like they are burning with all those golden tones and i will never remember the real name

They are stunning, and trags generally are very friendly will little effort spent on them. They are bigger than a typical Red Golden or Lady Amherst pheasant if you have ever seen one:

Do not have a heart-attack, they are separated for breeding season! They are a bit smaller than chickens.

Some more pictures:

These pictures were during molt which is why he looks rough.

Yep I would try this section for more answers: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/50/pheasants-and-partridge-chukar

You can just call them Tragopans or Trags. There are several kinds of tragopans Zaz, they are all very cool but I like the temminck's the most. (I don't have any I just like the looks of them). They look super cool when they display (not my photo):

There are some videos of them on youtube displaying also.

I have been able to see this beautiful display three times. Two times in one day! I did not have a camera with me so I just sat there and watched the rare spectacle. They generally do lateral displays, and their frontal display involving the inflation of their lappet and horns is uncommon, so people never get to see it. My oldest male must have lost his horns though! I also like the Temminck's the most. Satyr are nice, and may get some in the near future...but Temminck's are the brightest and have big lappets.

Awesome photos Bluecreek
Thanks! They can be a pain to photograph since they are so friendly and try biting the lens or something like that.

Zaz, ringneck pheasants are quite flighty. I find that not to be the case. If you spend enough time with your birds, like you do, then they will be friendly. I had a gorgeous melanistic mutant ringneck rooster who I let free range, and when he needed to be caught I just led him back into a pen. I have lady amhersts and red goldens, which are friendly, but they take some more work than the trags. First when I go my trags I could be on the other side of the pen and they would be running around looking for a fifth corner. They have a reputation of being super friendly, and mine are. They used to fly on my arm for treats, but not anymore. The winter thing is that they jump on my lap and get treats! I know eared pheasants are probably the friendliest, and have heard that they are playful. I love them, but I cannot have them. I will go through some old pictures and find some showing how friendly they are.

I love mine. Yes Minx the hen came in. They become very friendly in no time. Mine is just starting to color up a little but like most pheasants the second year is when they look hot. Blue Creek's is awesome BTW. They get along with my peafowl too. Hint Hint yall. lol! I am so cold here it is rediculous. I just went out to feed and I had to bust ice. I bow before my northern neighbors once again.

My gut feeling tells me I lost most all my plants even though they were covered up real good. And the kicker is colder tommorrow Oh well what ya gonna do. Its still 28 here at the crib at 11 am. As for me Im in for the day.

Yeah that is their one year coloring, and the second year plumage is an amazing transformation. I am glad trags are fine in the snow. May get my impeyans this week....here is a picture from Google:

My trags are afraid of my peafowl, but they are bossy little creatures. The LA and RG usually sleep outside since they are chased my the trags. And within the trags, the males are fighting, and they both fight their hens... I will soon have one pair left since the other pair will be traded for impeyans.

I would gladly take 28 degree weather! Imagine what it is in the negatives. No school since was so cold, wind chill is like minus 32.

I cant imagine! This sucks. Im also worried about my greens its so dang cold even though I have them tarp shelters and lights. Plus I put tarps arond the whole north side. The Imps are friendly too. At least mine were. I called them my "digger dans'
