I checked the incubator and it was at 101F, it's a still-air, so I went outside for about an hour or so, and came back in. I checked the incubator and, I have no idea WHAT happened, but it was at 111F! Are my Quails fried? Should I go ahead and toss out the eggs, or wait and see what happens? It's only Day 2.

Not if its just for a short time, internal of the egg takes a long time to get hot.

If the egg's insides were over 104*F for a long time (several hours) they would be fried.

Some people report spikes of 108*F for hours and still get a hatch (not as good tho).

I would definitely wait. I just went to Easter with my boyfriend at his family's house, and since we were out of town I sent the incubator over to my mom and dad's for the weekend. It had five eggs in it that were around a week old.

After my dad got home with the incubator after picking it up from our house, he forgot to plug it in for a couple of hours. He felt SO bad, poor guy.

When he realized it he thought for sure they were gone, but he went ahead and plugged it back in. They survived, though!

But wait, that's not the end of the story. My parents put the incubator in the same place they had had it when I had left some other eggs with them at Christmas . . . right underneith the skylight in the kitchen. The spot was fine at Christmas, because the whether was pretty cold and the sun didn't shine in. But this time it was very sunny, and my mom walked in in the middle of the day and found the temp in the bator to be 110.

She thought about breaking them open because she was afraid they were gone, but thankfully didn't want to do that without asking me first. When she did I said she should wait, and she candled them later that night and they were all FINE! It's a couple weeks later now and they're ready to hatch soon. They still look good!!

So that just goes to show you how resilliant eggs can be. BUT, I should mention that when my mom felt the eggs at the time the temp read 110, she said they didn't feel too abnormally hot. AND, these were chicken eggs, not quail eggs, so while the internal temperature obviously didn't get THAT hot in my eggs, the smaller eggs may have gotten hotter.

Still, I would definitely wait and candle them in a while. You never know. They could be just fine.

Good luck!!

i had a temp spike early on to 110. i lost some of the eggs but i have 7 going to lock down on monday. hopefully you will be ok. it was less than an hour. mine was several hours. wait and candle at 10 days and see where they are. good luck

Thank you all for your responses. I'm going to wait and candle them at 10 days. I'm hoping I don't lose any of them. This is my first hatching! I'm already nervous and disappointed I let it get so high!

I just hatched 32 out of 41 set for the easter hatch. We had a storm disrupt power at day 7. My electornic controller went on the fritz, like it wa stuck between on and off. temp was at 133 for at least a few hrs. The eggs were warm and it was hot in there. I shut it off , turned it back on and contrller reset.I left eggs go, and like I said 32 out of 41. They hatched over 4 days, some early some late, had to run my hacthing humidity about 8 percent higher tha normal, first chicks out were dry , but after got the humidity up, they came right out. Had 1 with a crooked toe, other wise they were fine, and seem to be growing well. So don't panic just yet, a couple hrs should not do them in.

I had a temp spike once of 118! I just went along with it and had a really good hatch. I think it was spiked all night.

You'll probably be fine.
