Temp trouble

if you're only going to set 7 eggs it's a good idea to add a couple sealed bottles of water (the 20oz size) to add mass and help with temp stability. and place the eggs near the center.

With mail ordered eggs allow them to settle fat end up for a day at room temperature before putting in incubator. Using water bottles for a heat mass is an excellent idea. Put them in now and you'll see your temps even more stable. Also don't panic when the eggs are first put in incubator, it will read low for hours until they are up to temp. The time to get up to temp depends on how many eggs you set. With two dozen it can take overnight. With seven maybe just a few hours, regardless, trust your settings prior to setting eggs and don't make adjustments until 12 hours has passed or you'll be chasing the temp all around.
Just got home. water bottles seem to help, I just needed to adjust the temp. I put another one in. Seems to be working. Thanks!

4 is plenty, and if you have eggs on the way you should leave the incubator on and don't turn it off again till after your hatch. make sure it's dialed in perfect and holding. then just add your eggs after they come in and resting them 24hrs.

I'm so excited! The temp goes to 100 f then drops to 97.5 f. Is that a problem.

yes, that's too much swing, if you are sure of the calibration of your thermometer and you can't get the resolution of your thermostat to a lower interval then you're better to have it at 98.5-101, that will give your eggs an internal temp that's closer to 99.5

I have 3 thermometers telling me the same temp. Will the temp swing resolve itself? I am trying to fix it by closing air vents and making my room hot as possible.

No, the swing is part of the thermostat, if it's digital some have the ability to set the differential between ON and OFF, mechanical (wafer type) don't. it will not resolve its self and the vents have no effect on it. the room temp needs to be stable, if you get the room too warm it can cause over heating. a stable temp from say 60-80 should be fine, just avoid any drafts and temp fluctuations.

Should I invest in a new wafer? Or is it just a problem with all hovabators. Sorry for asking a lot of questions.
