Temp trouble

Should I invest in a new wafer? Or is it just a problem with all hovabators. Sorry for asking a lot of questions.
A new wafer usually won't change anything, it's the mechanical switch that the wafer presses against in most cases. you might check that the wafer is expanding evenly. remove it from the screw, run tap water over it and adjust the water slowly from cold to hot and watch how it expands.

you can also check that when the adjustments screw is turned (with the wing nut loose so it can turn freely) that the wafer doesn't wobble excessively.

the Hova bators are usually pretty good at holding temp with minimal swing, i have two i use as hatchers and they are rock solid.

it can because it causes the wafer to expand at an angle rather then straight into the on/off switch. being VERY careful you can try to adjust the wafer by bending it slightly where the threaded end is soldered on. don't use any excessive force if you don't have a backup wafer on hand as you can cause damage letting the ether out and then it's useless.
 
Less than 3 degree swing is good in a wafer thermostat incubator. The mass of water bottles and when eggs are set narrow the swing by providing heat when thermostat turns off. That extra heat brings up the low end of your temperature swing. I incubate in a Hovabator that swings near 3 degrees F. No problems with it at all, as Jetcat said you want to get the average of the swing to temperature your incubating at. Then the internal temp of egg is that, it doesn't fluctuate in temp like the air does, it will hold the average.

Temps to incubate eggs are 99.5F for a forced air (fan) incubator or 101.5F for a still air incubator measuring temp at top level of eggs.
