temperature question.

Seems like the element is out of stock everyplace I've found so far. Will check some local appliance service places tomorrow for a 40 watt element.

I expect this batch of eggs is shot at this point. Will candle for grins in a few days anyway. If anything is going on we'll just run them out and see.

It's due to the poor hatch rates. Most have reported very dismal hatch rates with the still air models. I actually had one years ago and had the same results. Yours is a forced air and gives much better results but the 60% you've reported aren't very good when compared to what a similarly priced gqf 1588 will do. Upper 90% hatch rates are the norm with them. I'm not very good at candling coturnix eggs so I just run them the full time without candling. The last hatch was 119 out of 120 with 1 that wasn't formed at all so 100% hatch due to not throwing out the infertile egg. It just boils down to cost vs performance. It's not a brand loyalty issue as I have dickey's and gqf cabinets, it's just going with what works.

Well that 60 some percent was with eggs which were stored for a number of days in an egg collection basket on the kitchen counter without being turned and probably not at the ideal temperature so I figure that was a pretty good hatch rate for those particular eggs. I would like a bigger incubator but refuse to pay hundreds of dollars for it. I will likely start a build on a cabinet style unit

Blucoondawg.. Im with you. Planning to just build my own small cabinet using a series of 25 watt silicone heat pads and a thermostat wafer switch and a computer cpu fan. All the parts together are a fraction of the fan outfitted styro foam coolers.

Eggs in it since Saturday so 3 days so far and still can't break 99.9. Just going run them out and see what happens. Meanwhile, i will be making one.

I've got the farm innovators fan model with turner, the whole unit cost 92 bucks on sale at fleet farm, I dont think that is too bad. I want to build a large one that holds 3 or 4 of those turners to do a
Large batch at one time. I do think I will get an Incukit from incubators warehouse just because they seem to be very good at regulating temperature
