23 here this morning, but oh is it nice to see that sun!

SallyF, sorry to hear you sustained storm damage. Looks like a good day to get 'er fixed back up.

mema, I am sending prayers and healing thoughts your way, with a wish that 2011 is a good year for you!

stanglover, I'll just bet you are gorgeous and slender. . . . and young and wrinkle-free, too! 10 pounds, meh! Don't let that wiiFit tell you what's what.

CityGirl - - glad to see your birds have found their inner duck, LOL! You have clearly gone over the chickeny edge if you imagine situations and then add chickens to liven it all up. Now tell me, what would a chicken Rose Bowl Parade float look like . . . and would it have to be made of flowers??
big_smile.png

HBuehler, whatcha got cookin' in the bators this week? I haven't seen any chick pics, so you have clearly lost interest in torturing me. I'm hurt.

NellaBean, didja find a home for your scaredy bunny?

Thanks Jenski for the prayers. I am doing pretty good today and have tried too start catching up on all the work in this house that got put off for 2 months. Hubby is sick now with all that crud that is going around. I hope all of us stay healthier this next year and it will be a year of blessings for all of us.

Nope Scaredy Bunny is still here. If she can just manage to not suck at the litterbox, she can stay. She is a bit off and on with it....I wonder if it is hormonal...I hate to get her spayed as if it does not fix the problem, considering she is NOT very friendly, she would be impossible to find a new home for.

Siiiiiiiiiiiiigh. Sure you don't want a bunny? LOL.

How are you going about litter box training Nella?

Thanks Jenski, I am young!

Just not skinny!

What kind of bator you got Buehler? I'm in the market for one as soon as I can get some monies saved up

Sorry

pictures coming soon.I have been bugged by a stomach something and busy making more cages for my basement..I have no idea why I need more.53 fluffy butts all in one day and they are just sooo cute! We have lots of cheeks and stripes and fuzzy feet and those stares you get when you tell them how cute they are.One has "damage" as Ethan calls it with a fused leg.
I have more going to lockdown tomorrow..looks like mostly green eggs and the last of the Jen eggs...not many took but hoping for some more cute babies there
smile.png
This is a MUCH smaller bunch then I didn't put any more in until recently so a little break.Tomorrow I will set more
I have lots of the OE eggs if anyone needs a hatching fix...
Got lucky and had someone come for 8 chicks and left with 14....I like that chicken math
lol.png
Still have some real pretty Roos here looking for a new home..and a few pretty girls as well

Aww Holly, sorry to hear you had that stomach thing. My brother's entire family had it over XMas, and the rest of us "waited with 'bated breath" hoping we weren't going to fall, LOL! . . . hope you're feeling better.

Did you have a decent development rate on that last batch of mini blue eggs? I know some of them were a bit old; I was curious as to just how old they would be and still develop. Got a couple more fresh "girl eggs" (rounded, not pointed like boy eggs, LOL!) if you want a couple more. I would love to have actual DATA on that old farmers' tale!

Nella, good luck with your girl bun. I'll just bet that spaying her changes that issue a great deal. When I had two boy buns, the non-neutered fellow was something of a slob. I could not get him to consistently use the boxes. Neutered boy was an angel, very tidy and just so much easier. . . . and no, the last thing I need is another female in this house!
lol.png
I have two naughty girl dogs who are constantly jostling for my position in the pack as it is.
hmm.png
Spaying a small animal like that is really a hassle IMO. If you don't want to bother with spaying, maybe there is someone out there who would be interested in breeding her for 4-H or something??

Of the two bunnies, she is actually the "cleaner" one.....she just randomly FORGETS to use the litterbox. When she does use it, she does really well with it. When she decides not to use it, it is disastrous......

Neither bunny is fixed.....so they live separately.

I made new litterboxes this weekend.......her most recent problem seems to stem from whenever I clean the box. Then she won't use it. I don't even "clean" it. I just dump the nastiness out and fill it with new stuff. So it still "smells" like her litterbox. But once it is full of clean pellets, she just poops and pees all over her cage. When I added this new box, I put a scoop of dirty litter from the old box in there.

Someone else mentioned giving her a hidey box type place....however, I'm pretty sure she would use it as a litterbox. I had given her a bed and she peed and pooped all over it.

Howdy all! Newbie here. Just joined the forum and am really enjoying "being with" folks who don't think I'm odd b/c I like chickens, watch them instead of tv, and such.

Sorry to hear about all the sickness. Just wanted to tell everyone about something my family has used since about 1996.....it's called Oscillococcinum (or some such) and I do not own any shares in that company, really! But it's the greatest thing for all flu type illnesses. It's little homeopathic pills that you put under your tongue (bypass the gag reflex!) and it helps stop all the symptoms of flu....fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, aches, pains!!! Doesn't kill the germs, just helps you not feel bad. I don't care if I have the flu as long as I don't feel like it ~

I get a 12 pack at the health food store, but I'v seen Oscillo in a couple drug stores. I carry one in my purse at all times! There's a vial in each bathroom and every fall I send a pack to our kiddo's. Have given it to a friends 18 month old and to my mom when she was 80.

Morning, all!

Glad I haven't seen you in a while, Holly, or I would so be blaming my stomach woes on you!

I too have been laid low with blechiness, although I'm pretty sure mine stems from a round of antibiotics. Seems like the cure is a zillion times worse than the original problem. I knew antibiotics were overkill in this case and I listened to the doctor anyway. When do you think I'll finally listen to my gut (no pun intended- I am certainly listening to it today!!). I have eaten more yogurt than I care to think about in the last three days. The dogs are pretty pumped as I always let them have the yogurt cup to lick out afterwards. That does make for happy, little yogurty dogs! Actually all the critters are pleased as I have been piled up on the sofa for days now, usually with one at my feet and a couple on top of me.

Fingers crossed that this will clear up soon. I have stuff to do and break is almost over!!

The chickens are enjoying the sunshine. The cold never seems to bother them. They just fluff up and get on with the scratching. Even the tiny babies out in the silkie pen are running around enjoying the day. They seem to have integrated with the flock and are doing great. I've been sitting out there trying to decide who needs to go. There are a few of them that are clearly DQed from the breeding program- either too light or too dark. One little girl will definitely be staying. She has great uniform color and is one of the darker ones. Plus she likes to come hang out on my lap and chat with me. She is a sweetie pie for sure! Who knows about the others? At least half of them are boys, so they will be moving on.

Holly, I have a new favorite for you. This little guy had me guessing for a while, but I'm about 90% sure he's a boy now. He is actually one of the lighter ones with white and buff striations. I know you said your kids love the funky colored ones. I think he will fit right in. Plus if you breed him back to your whites you might get some really cool patterning. He is currently the top contender to come to your house.

Believer01- I'll look for the Oscillo next time I'm out. I have had the flu and hate feeling that wasted!

Nellabean- your bunnies are cuties! I like the bunny pen. Did you make it? It would make a great brooder!
tongue.png

Jenski- I think the Rose Bowl floats have to be made of organic materials. Maybe it is plant materials. Either way, I'm sure we could get some feathers in there at very least. Of course it would have live chickens on it. That might mean our float wouldn't make it to the end, but I'm sure the chickens would be happy. We would certainly be the coolest float in the parade.

Hope everyone enjoys this lovely day!

you will enjoy being a part of this insane bunch! I also love oscillo been using it for 17 years or more.It works wonders.I really think my stomach thing was all McDonalds..took the kids and not long after I ate I was sick and stayed that way for about a day then right back fine again.
Jen...most of the eggs stayed clear don't think there has been a quitter but they were also during that cold spell and I had a high percent clear as well that week...darn winter
