I'm in Portland which is about an hourmaybe a bit more from Smyna. We have Ruebensville ffed mill here. They carry purina feeds and others. I get game bird feed there for my bantams and milo for my pigeons. They aren't any higher than TSC. They can usually order whatever you need.I believe.Their number is 615-325-3651 if you want call first and check.
What are you growing?

Here in Lebanon we have a few feed stores that make their own-co-op though is just like Dumor I get mine at Edwards Hatchery(now just a feed store) -they make a premium scratch which is about 12% protein and looks like a gourmet dinner they also make starter, broiler, grower and layer and I may have missed some.Oh they are a lot cheaper than TSC and the feed isn't brownish gray.

Hi GamblerGirl. my inlaws are looking at buying a house in Joelton! Funny to see how close we all are.

Do you have a good feed store in Joelton or do you need to go up to Pleasant View? I stopped by the PV store yesterday and decided to stick to Doris Milling in Springfield... the PV store wasn't very helpful. But I love new finding places with variety.

Thanks HBueler for that advice. I might head out to Lebanon in a day or so and see if I can get something at that feed store.

I have noticed that my chickens don't have much enthusiasm for the Dumor, never have. I had my original two hens for almost 3 years and they never more than picked at their feed. Sometimes I felt like they weren't eating enough, but I gave them layer pellets and scratch grains as well as free ranging.

One hen died so we just got a year old Golden Comet to keep her company. Again, not so excited about the Dumor. We also have three 7 week old babies (buff orpington, silver laced wyandotte and cochin pullets) and I have them on starter/grower Dumor. I don't like how it is so powdery...they never eat that part.

We used to have a decent feed store here in Smyrna but it went out of business when a consignment clothing store moved in. Imagine, buying chicken feed and used clothes in the same place.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

CESOrtega,

I am currently feeding Purina SunFresh and the chicks go crazy for it. Nope, no experience as this is my first batch of chickens, and yes it is a little pricier than other feeds, but that's what my local feed store sells and I have heard good things about it here at BYC. Of course I have the Starter/Grower right now but plan to switch to the "Flock Raiser" when they are grown - it has high protein and can be used for a mixed flock of birds.

Maybe your chickens would like it better than DuMor? I'm glad you mentioned that about DuMor, since my TSC sells it and I was wondering how it compared to Purina's SunFresh line.

PS-May I ask if you ever served in the US Army? Your name sounds awfully familiar to me, I'm wondering if I know you from the service.

Where do you get the Purina feed? I can't find anything except the Dumor. Most times people look at me strange when I ask for chicken food.

I do, however, know of a vet that treats chickens. Too bad I didn't find it before my girls were attacked by a coon in July. If anyone needs one, they are off Arno Rd, very close to 840, between Triune and Franklin.

I haven't been in the military and my first name is Celeste...that should make it or break it for you if you think my name is familiar

I get my feed at Doris Mills and TSC for bedding, sometimes Co-Op. I live of Whites Creek, Coopertown Rd. Big barn with blue roof.
There's a lady on Whites Creek that sales eggs for $2.50. My husband told her to come to BYC's and join us. Some one on down New Hope has chicken also.
