the geese are out free-ranging for real today and it's HILARIOUS! the dogs are terrified and the cats don't know what to do- except for little Tommy, who apparently thinks he is one of them cause he's never seen anything else that is white. he keeps trying to hang out and they keep running him off! i'll get pics soon!

I know what you mean! I have 7 broodies in 5 pens (what a headache) and one mama raising chicks already.

Last year only 2 tried to go broody and I was able to break them of it. This year, no dice. Everyone wants to be a mom.

Guess I will be selling a LOT of d'Uccles at the September fair/show. And maybe a couple of Showgirls, if I'm lucky

Thinking of having a purplus chicken sale (like a yard sale for chickens and chicken stuff).... Anyone seriously interested, PM me. I'm just off of Hwy 411 in Englewood - not but a few minutes from the Amish sale. I'll have the Barnevelder in the avatar... some bantam barnevelder cockrels, some standard barnevelder cockrels, a silver sebright wannabe (he is not hen feather, but a good roo), some just starting to crow Delawares, Barred Rocks, and a Buff Sebirhgt cockrel - all cockrels. If they don't sell, I'll start to process them, but I figure that is alot to process for a two person household and I'll try selling a few first.

Before anyone asks. i'm not selling any of my hens. Sorry, it was a cockrel heavy year so far and I need all I can get.

There may be a few more that I decide to let go of at the last minute. I have alot of breeds mixed up in my young flock of 70 or so... but they are all still chicks. I'm not sure who will stay or go out of them.

like I said, PM me if you are interested. I would prefer not to drag them all up in the front yard and sit out there all day like a yard sale, so if you want them and want to pick them up some other time, just ask!
