If they are molting it can be several months before they lay..or if it's the weather and short days most hens stop laying or lay very little..great news is rumor has it Spring is coming...after the snow ice and deep freeze

New Baby Pics by morning...the last chick is getting ready to leave the bator soon
Holly let me know when you decide to get rid of the blue and black A's. I have some friends in Okla that may be interested. I can transport for them if they do.
Boy it sounds like you all south of us are getting ready to get hit with a snowstorm! Only a couple for us but several inches for you guys, isn't that backwards to what it usually is!lol
Went to the Elkton ,Ky sale topday. Boyt now is the time to buy bantams! OEGBs were going for $4 a pair! silkies went for $6 each, big hens were$5-$7. Muscovey hen ducks(nice clean ones) were$5 each. I got some guniea pigs for $1 each. A pretty medium size donkey brought $5! I sure wish I had a little pasture close to the house. Or it was closer to time to move back to Okla. to our new farm we are buying for retirement!
Quote: Shakespeare's Case, an original play by the Nashville Shakespeare Festival. It is FABULOUS and worth the trip to Nashville to see. I'm doing the lighting. The show is at Belmont's Trout Theatre and opens on January 13th. The premise is that Shakespeare is on trial, accused of being irrelevant and unsuited to modern audiences. Shakespeare then proceeds to lay out why modern audiences and modern students should learn his works. It is funny and tragic and romantic and dramatic. It is, quite frankly, a great play, especially if you aren't normally a Shakespeare person.
We did our long day today. Tomorrow is shorter (and we should get out in time to make it home before the snow starts!). Dress rehearsals are Tuesday and Wednesday and then we open and I am back in school. No rest for the weary.
A big night here- all of the baby silkies and ameraucanas finally managed to go to bed INSIDE the coop all by themselves. Until tonight I have had to place them in the coop each night. Tonight they were all huddled up in a pile inside when I got home.
All of the Am's are Jean's stock 8-9 months I had 2 shipments of them about a month apart.Roo is black then 1 black pullet and a blue pullet-she has a few black splashes though. The ladies are laying-all of those OE chicks are from them.
A few inches of snow here is a foot of snow in snow states so we will be snowed in here for a few days..oh wait then the Northern storm is coming for blast 2.I'll be home for a long time
snow, ice, steep hill no salt trucks yah I'll be home
Good morning, Tennessee!! It was 12 degrees at my back door this morning. Had to dig out the Carhartt insulated coveralls! (Now I ask you, is there anything on this earth that is better than Carhartts?? *sigh*) It was very beautiful outside though, nice and clear here.
OklaDD, I really must get with you to find out where these auctions are. I would love to go and watch, but it is really hard to find out about them. The Elkton one sounds fun! It's nice to see what other folks are raising.
I am very excited about your "retirement property." Good for you for taking the plunge and just doing it! One day soon you'll be sitting on your porch on your very own piece of Oklahoma. . . with hundreds of critters roaming around everywhere, LOL!
A good life indeed.
Sissy, most of my hens have been taking a break since late November. I don't use artificial lighting, and when our daylight shrinks this much the 1+ year old hens just quit laying. Only my 2010 hens are still laying at all, and not very many eggs either. In another couple of months we'll all be overrun with eggs, though!
Just keep feeding them well, and once we get back over 10 hours of daylight I'll bet they'll start up again.
cybercat, I'd love to see pics of your partridge rocks. Why don't you post a pic here if you get a chance? That partridge color is so beautiful.
Robo, are you looking for Old English, or just any game bantams? I thought Okla-doodle-doo might have some OEGBs - - maybe he will chime in. He sure has some pretty bantams. . . and he's got a fantastic collection of pigeons too, for anyone wanting to get into those gorgeous birds.
stanglover, congratulations on the incubator! Brinsea is a great choice. You'll be in trouble with the DH in no time, LOL!
Let us know when you're going to cook us some eggs with your new egg cooker . . . just don't get the two devices mixed up.
CityGirl, what a cool project! If it's open to the public, it might actually be a good lure to get me out of the house.
Ah now, your chicks going into the coop by themselves - - was it just their newfound maturity, or did the wicked cold temps yesterday evening perhaps have something to do with their decision?? Hmmmm . . .
And Holly . . . here's a pic I found of one of Nina's hatch mates from last summer - - they both had that few-spot splash, and though I did not keep this little guy I figure this pattern would have splashed up like Nina. He's a similar color to some of your current chicks:
Okay, what a great way to start the morning! After taking care of the critters (in the insulated bibs hubby gave me for our 32 anniversary!) I'm at the 'puter watching a mess of meadowlarks high up in the trees and reading bout folks that bring the chickens into the house!!! It's great to know that I'm not alone!!! Thanks gang! I needed that!
