Hey guys, TN thread is looking dry again

I have 6 baby chicks on craigslist a dollar a piece, barnyard mix ( 5 are mixed with RIR rooster and RIR hen, Golden Comet hen, and New Hampshire hen) and 1 chick is EE Rooster mixed with one of those hens or a white rock, green legs and is completely yellow. They're 2 weeks old and need a new home so I can move a queen sized bed back in the back room. DH was so sweet and for our anniversary were getting a king size bed

Getting over yet another cold, this time went to the doctors since I ran a fever

, then the Mustang needs its exhaust fixed

Also, I have several RIR hens for sale

most are just going to be good for egg laying, not breeding for show quality but most are hatchery quality because they're just too light in color in my opinion and a few NHR's. I have not yet laying pullets and a rooster as well in RIR, but they're kinda ugly

I just put some SLW eggs in the bator

after they hatch some EE eggs will be going in since mine started laying again.

Anyone help with some information about getting a permit to sell eggs? Do you have to have one if you're not a big producer? TIA for reading my questions! Linda in Crossville

Yes you need a permit unless you're selling under the radar. Basically, you have to have a refrigerator to store the eggs other than your kitchen refrigerator. They should be washed in a designated place other than your kitchen sink. Can't re-use egg cartons, and cartons must have your name & address as well as date eggs were collected and be marked ungraded. You will have to be inspected and permit and inspection renewed each year.

Call your local county agent and he/she can give you the number in Nashville you need to call to get information.

Personally, it wasn't worth the effort to me, so I just sell to friends, family, and former co-workers.

The latest state rule is, one must have a comercial kitchen to sell eggs to public like farmers markets. They took off the sell off the farm. This was past two years ago. Our farmers market met with those that do inspections since many were selling package products like jelly and eggs.

I'm probably going to have Laurie help sale my chicks, I'm out of space inside and they're too young for outside. I just got my 26 CornishX last friday and they're taking up my large brooder.

@Nella - They're doing great! They're in with my EE's run/coop and the leghornX loves the rooster and is laying a nice almost white egg. The cochin on the other hand is not liking the rooster and hasn't started laying yet. They got used to the coop and run and other hens pretty fast.
