Terramycin Dosage? - Help!-First Chickens

Wow, you got a lot of answers here. I have Duramycin and was also confused on the conversion at first. I use 1/8th tsp. per gallon when I use it. I currently have it but don't use it. A few months ago I brought in 13 hens that were not well cared for and the weather was getting cold. I used the Duramycin for about a week then stopped as they showed no symptoms of illness. I am pleased to say that they all now are very healthy hens! I can't say the meds did anything, but what I gave them certainly didn't hurt. I think all they really needed was plenty of good care and feed.

Oh yeah, Duramycin (tetracycline) is an antibiotic. Just like with us humans, it only works for a short time to rid an infection. If overused the "bug" can develop it's own immunity to the drug.

Just reading thru this thread as my young stock have started sneezing and sniffing, looks like its mycoplasma, the swab is in the post.
Just to clarify... mycoplasma is not a virus or a bacteria but is nearer to a bacteria. Thus a few, but not most, antibiotics will work against it.
These are terramycin, tylan and baytril.
Unfortunately the mycoplasma can cause abcesses, often under the eye and antibiotics are very poor at clearing abcesses so chronic disease or recurrance can happen even though the treatment was"right".

Can anyone honestly say that a chick should never sneeze? I have a week old chick that I separated from the others two days ago. I i this because she was not growing like the others. She also had pasty butt. She was eating and drinking here and there but just wanted to be under mama hen all day. Mama hen did not hatch them. I purchased them from a hatchery.she adopted them.anyways, the chick has definitely improved.no more pasty butt.however, now it makes a weird sneeze/loud hiccup sound here and there. After reading multiple threads i don't know what to think.gape worm, respiratory illness?....thru have not been exposed to dirt or outdoors really. They are in a large kennel with mamma buff Orp

A supplement is a good idea....just to help their systems. If a breeder has CRD in his flock, should he still sell those birds after they appear all better since they will always carry it? I would most like to return the remaining 7 birds to the seller, disinfect the coop and start over with healthy stock. Does this seem like a good idea? Or just keep going with the others if they seem fine? I just don't know how common CRD is and if many birds have had it.

I dont know how this internet thing works but i do know how my chickens work i have 130 of them i hope newclucker gets this. I have found the best dosage 4 terramycin at 1 tsp per gallon of water. If you only need 2 treat a single chicken then i wouldnt mix more than a quarter gallon at a time.
