Some hens actually do crow (weird right?), so take a close look at your Gold Comet. If she/he has a white body, with a few splotches of gold/red, then it's a male. If yours has a rust to light orange colored body with white tipped feathers on the tail and back, yours is a female with identity issues

.

Hope that helps!

Oh, my goodness. We gave it to a neighbor b/c of the crowing!! My kids cried for hours. I thought it was a boy, and it was my only beautiful golden comet. We were sick. I am going to get my chicken back!! We named her Henrietta, then Henry, now Henrietta again...... This gender thing with chickens is for the birds;) Thank you so much for the information!!

Lol it does get stressful. I'm really glad I could help you ID your Comet. I have a pack of 4 of them, and they're so sweet, and lay like it's their mission in life. They don't breed more Gold Comets (which are sexable by color), but they usually arn't purchased for breeding anyway.

And if your Comet was making a lot of racket, it's probably because she was close to laying. I have no idea why, but my girls did the same thing for a couple of days, then stayed silent when they actually started laying. Though I do get growled at by Carmelita if I interrupt her during laying

scary chicken!

LOL! I am going back to get him/her now. I will take a picture and post tomorrow. By the description, I think that I gave away my only brown egg laying girl!! She fit the description in the last post perfectly. I just heard the cocka-doodle-doo and just knew Henrietta was a Henry!! Stupid me!!! I will post the pic as soon as I get her back to the farm. Thank you so much!!

Hmmm I've never heard a hen do a full cock a doodle doo, my rhode Island red is brooding a week old chick that she hatched herself and since she has been out and about with the chick she has been crowing which I find strange! I have no roosters and people say they do try to take the place of one, her crow isn't half as relentless or loud, she does the full wing flap that cockerels do just before they crow stretches her neck and then lets out a rather pityful caw like a crow, if she really started to cock a doodle doo in the early hours and then on and off during the day like a true cockerel I'd have to get rid of her as the neighbours complained when I had a cockerel

luckily she only does it once or twice around 8am when she enters the run with the chick and that's it, would be interesting to see if your chicken really is a hen that cock a doodle doos, you will have to take a video so we can hear it!

Well, we picked up Henrietta (Henry)! The neighbor was more than happy to give him/her back, we gave him a few jars of homemade fig preserves for his troubles!! We haven't heard him/her make a sound so far. We are so happy to have him/her back!! I forgot my camera, but will post a pic as soon as I can. Now, according to all of the information in this post, we are looking for eggs. Patiently waiting for eggs!!

they look like girls to me but I'm no expert. I have 6 TT's and they began to lay around 16 weeks. The egg colors range from white to brown.(one lays the white egg the other 5 lay tan to brown)As thompsonfunnyfarm said its a surpise.
I hope your golden comet turns out to be a hen too.

Here is a picture of the golden comet. We got our first egg this morning from one of our tt's. It is creamy tan colored. We were so excited. She went right into the nest, and did her amazing thing!

Thank you all for the information, now if you can just tell me do we have a Henry or a Henrietta??? It made a sort of cocka-doodle-do this morning around 6:00, several times.
