The decision about getting a puppy or not just became super easy for me. The dog didn't get pregnant. Looks like I will try on getting chicks this spring. Is it too late to get them now? I should see if the breeder in Honey Grove has any.... I can turn Nathan's old room into my chicken room. :) I bet that will get him moving his stuff out in a hurry!

Oh! I opened up a big Pandora's Box on Saturday. I was working in Nathan's old room and I noticed a split in the paint. So I picked at it. BIG MISTAKE! Look what happened!!

The paint from about half the wall weighed 5.5 pound! I am going to peel the whole room now. I would think at some point the paint will fall off the wall otherwise.

Awww, I'm sorry :/
I don't think a ton of breeders are hatching out now, but I know some are.
Most of the breeds are on hold until Spring too, at hatcheries.
That said, mine are almost 3 weeks and feathering out fast!
I think they will be fine for winter. We are going to finish working on the back this week, and move the littles outside during the day, into the new mini pen.
I do know this winter is supposed to be like last, and after that last front, I'm not skeptical lol
If you ARE going to get a few, I'd do it sooner rather than later, so they have time to feather.
If not, Get some in Feb or Early March. They can spend chickhood in the room, and by the time it gets warmer, they'll be ready to go out!

I called the lady near Honey Grove and her last batch is hatching tomorrow! I told her what I want and she is going to let me know what she has tomorrow night. :) I may be going to get chicks this week. :)

Found her ad on craigslist. :)

The lady had a god hatch but I couldn't get all the chicks I wanted and she was only selling the cream legbars in pairs. I decided to wait until February and I will place an order with her so I can get all I want. :)

I'm going to draw out a coop and work on getting it built over the winter. I have all those shelves to use now! Nathan's things are getting packed up for him slowly. :( He should be doing this himself!

Do you need to rehome him because you can't have roosters? Have you tried a collar on him to keep him from crowing? I don't know if they really work but the reviews are good.

I found this article on freezing eggs. I want to try this so I can have a year round supply of fresh eggs. My neighbor's chickens slow way down in the winter but never completely stop laying. She doesn't give them light in the winter either. The Delawares are supposed to be good winter layers. I sure hope I can get some in the spring.

Crossing my fingers for you!

My Ideal babies are 1 month old and just doing great! They've been outside this week and are getting so big.
A female Australorp, one of the Russians, and Bubbles, the scissorbeak Salmon Fav, are really starting to stand out with their personalities.
Bubbles is my little adventurer and went from super flighty to running up to me. She'll be special needs so, better sooner than later for her!
Because of her scissor beak, she may eventually be at least a part time house chicken...

@chickieluver26 I'm sorry, I would help you out but we can't have roosters either.
Do you have a local facebook poultry/chicken page or farm/garden page?
There's also one called "Chicken of Texas".
I was able to rehome 2 roos via Facebook and had a lot of confidence in the homes they went to.
I got pretty lucky.

You MAY try Craigslist, but if you care about what happens to him, I'd be careful because he's a game.

Hope it works out!! I saw pictures on the other Texas page, he's a looker!

Yeah, I didn't end up using it. I've sold some items on there, but I wouldn't use it for anything alive.
Some people do well with it though...

Regardless, good luck! He's pretty and a lot of people seem to have more games now, so it shouldn't be so hard...
There's also a buy sell trade forum on here

Sounds like you could use some leg bands, Brynn. Or paint their toenails.

After using almost a full bag of the D&L dog food I have decided to go back to Iams Healthy Naturals. I found out that I can call every 3 months for coupons too. The D&L food was ok, but I am not 100% happy with it. I think if I had switched from Purina or similar brand I would be loving it, but it is a small step down from Iams. I can get the Iams at Target and save 5% with my Target card too so that helps and brings it down to $1.18/lb. Not too bad. Way better than Blue or Bil Jac. I am going to look into homemade food too. I really want to find out the cost per pound though first. I guess I could make some up and figure it out. I know Sasha will love it. Once my car is paid off (20 months?) this won't even be an issue. I will be making her food then. :)

I switched to Victor dog food. It is made in Mt. Pleasant, Texas and has no corn, soy or wheat. I was feeding them Pedigree, but since switching to Victor, they love it and they POOP LESS!! I think the bag size I buy is 40 pounds and depending on what "flavor" I buy, I have paid from $32 to $26 per bag. Right now I am feeding the blue bag, Select Beef Meal and Brown Rice. They love it, they are healthy, fit, and have shiny coats. Here's a link,
