Do you have the contact info for honey grove? Ive only inquired so far. Theres a lady on NYC thats selling but they'd have to be shipped from Ohio. Then someone on the Faverolles thread said there is a lady in Norman that breeds them. But im pretty sure Honey Grove is closer. The light Sussex were just an add in to meet the minimum order, im not too attached

Some of my water jugs got exposed to sunlight in the afternoon and turned green due to the mold ... much faster than the one not exposed to hot sunlight. I was told to put some vinegar into the water to eliminate this molding problem. One person showed me the Apple Cider Vinegar "with the Mother"... the brand they suggest.

Did anyone try this yet?

Hung, I always put ACV in my water and I still get mold inside the waterers. I am hoping someone else will pipe in and let us know what they are doing.

Lisa :)

I know this is going to sound funny but to keep the the mold from forming in them is to paint the outside with a opaque paint. I have seen a guy down under that has an aqua phonics set up that he paints it to keep the water clear. He is on YouTube.

Oh gosh!! Yeah brookshire11!! I still want a cream leg bar. They just are so pretty. I'm still struggling with these two stupid production reds I got from my friend that are not laying. I'd have someone cull them in a heartbeat if I knew someone close by me. They are just freeloaders. Then I could replace them or just have 8 instead of ten. These new chicks I got-the marans-have feathered legs and that is really the funniest thing ever!! They are so skittish it is hard to get pics, but I'm trying!!
Do y'all's chickens look like they are panting sometimes in this heat? I went outside yesterday and they had their beaks open and really looked like a dog panting. Should I be concerned? They have water and I put a small cat litter box with water in it in their run. But I want them to get acclimated to the heat. Ant thoughts??

That's panting, they just have to get used to it :)
Mine do it too. As long as it's one of those constant pants and they're not throwing their head up or anything.
As long as they have shade and water...I'm sure they're fine

We need to find you some legbars!

Mine pant and sometimes they hold their wings out a bit to cool off. I wouldn't worry. We did hit 100 here the past two days. It is time to put ice bottles in their water.

Yes we do!! I have realized that it is easier, somewhat, to find the chickens you want after spring is done. More availability.

In my ranch, chinaberry grows so fast. The seeds fell to the ground and.... voila... new trees started growing. After 3-4 years, we have an area of 20 yards long cover with shades.... That's good!

Last year, some heavy rains came. One tree almost fell down... only tilted 30 deg. I suggested to cut the tree, my partner said No... as the tree tilted, it actually covered up an empty area and now the shades spreaded better .. over the coops. That's even better !

I have some valuable hens setting on the eggs. So I moved them to under the trees to assure they are covered all day. Those were the best cages I could find for them!

Last night, with heavy rain, strong wind guts 70 mph with several tornatos, the tilted tree finally fell ... over the cage. Then we realized what we did last year was... that's stupid !

Will have to go to the ranch to assess the damage tonight ... kkkkkk
