Its my own **** fault cause I did not put a latch and lock of some kind on it. Did not think coons could get up that high and open the roof.

Went out to water the chickens to find that my 5 EE in the small coop gone. Nothing but feathers left I guess a raccoon got the roof up and got inside. No blood or anything else around inside or outside the coop. Just lots of feathers. I knew I should have put a latch on the roof but thought its over 2ft off the ground and not very light in weight so never thought a coon could get in. So now the only bantams I have are my silkies. Going to put latch and d rings on everything plus buy me a live trap and see what I get.
I ended up having to let them work it out. They had enough room to run away and do their own thing in between attacks. I did supervise for awhile though. Now they get along unless Blue tries to eat firstThat's Horrible! I am so sorry.I hope you catch what ever it was.
I just stopped in to ask a question. We leave tomorrow to head back home and I am already thinking about what needs to be done next week.
I need advice....
I have 2 silkies that are 11 weeks old and the other 20 are full size chicks that are 15 weeks old. I need to put the 2 silkies in with the other chicken but I am not sure how. They all live in the coop and go out to the run together but are divided by wire. I have tried letting the silkies out for a little bit from time to time but one of the other ones picks at them.
How do I need to do this? What is the best age to do this. I will have a new set of chicks at the end of this month so will need the brooder area. What steps would you take? I know to expects some pecking but how do I know what is to much? Should I put them out during the night??? ANY advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
How everyone is well, Hung I saw your pics that looks like it was scary. Glad all is well!!
When you merge them, they will beat on the weak one... that's is guarantee. So the older they are, the better they can withstand the beating. This explains why young chicks of 1-2 weeks got beaten to death, while chicken of 4 mos and above got to fighting and lost and knew to run away. Another words.. when merge, the older the better.I need advice....

Looks like it got rough at your place. So glad you didn't lose any chickens!
Mine still roost on the ground. They get up on the roost during the day and hang out, but come night time, they all huddle on the ground.
So sorry your lost your babies Harley. Coons are very good at getting into places they shouldn't. With their little human hands, you'd be surprised what they can get into. Hope you catch the villain!!!Went out to water the chickens to find that my 5 EE in the small coop gone. Nothing but feathers left I guess a raccoon got the roof up and got inside.
