Do you have the contact info for honey grove? Ive only inquired so far. Theres a lady on NYC thats selling but they'd have to be shipped from Ohio. Then someone on the Faverolles thread said there is a lady in Norman that breeds them. But im pretty sure Honey Grove is closer. The light Sussex were just an add in to meet the minimum order, im not too attached
BLACK COPPER MARANS/CRESTED CREAM LEGBARS/AMERAUCANAS/OLIVER EGGERS
903-227-3738

I don't remember her name. She may have more than what is listed. Those are the ones that I want.

I also have the number for the guy in OK, but besides Wheaten Marans I don't remember what all he has.

Oh gosh!! Yeah brookshire11!! I still want a cream leg bar. They just are so pretty. I'm still struggling with these two stupid production reds I got from my friend that are not laying. I'd have someone cull them in a heartbeat if I knew someone close by me. They are just freeloaders. Then I could replace them or just have 8 instead of ten. These new chicks I got-the marans-have feathered legs and that is really the funniest thing ever!! They are so skittish it is hard to get pics, but I'm trying!!
Do y'all's chickens look like they are panting sometimes in this heat? I went outside yesterday and they had their beaks open and really looked like a dog panting. Should I be concerned? They have water and I put a small cat litter box with water in it in their run. But I want them to get acclimated to the heat. Ant thoughts??
I see wild birds panting all the time in the heat. They seem to do ok. Some people put up misters to help cool the air around their runs. I'm more the you need to adjust to the environment type. Plenty of good shade and lots of water.

Mine pant and sometimes they hold their wings out a bit to cool off. I wouldn't worry. We did hit 100 here the past two days. It is time to put ice bottles in their water.

Lisa :)
100* already?! Oh my!!

In my ranch, chinaberry grows so fast. The seeds fell to the ground and.... voila... new trees started growing. After 3-4 years, we have an area of 20 yards long cover with shades.... That's good!

Last year, some heavy rains came. One tree almost fell down... only tilted 30 deg. I suggested to cut the tree, my partner said No... as the tree tilted, it actually covered up an empty area and now the shades spreaded better .. over the coops. That's even better !

I have some valuable hens setting on the eggs. So I moved them to under the trees to assure they are covered all day. Those were the best cages I could find for them!

Last night, with heavy rain, strong wind guts 70 mph with several tornatos, the tilted tree finally fell ... over the cage. Then we realized what we did last year was... that's stupid !

Will have to go to the ranch to assess the damage tonight ... kkkkkk
Oh no! I hope your hens and eggs are alright.

We never did get the heavy rain and strong storms they forecast. I got 0.1" at my house. It was too cloudy to see the eclipse too.

I have exiting news to share! I entered some photos to an assignment on Nat Geo and one of my photos was favourited by the editor that set up the assignment. :D

I am so excited! I haven't had a photo favourited by an editor before.

Here is a lady I know of http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/grd/4407994634.html

I was lucky. Several cages were heavily damaged but no chicken loss

The chicken in the last pix was lucky. Two trees fell one inch from his cage.

Glad you didn't lose any birds Hung. That looks like a real mess to clean up. Rent a chipper and it will make short work of it though and give you some nice mulch to use. :)

Went out to water the chickens to find that my 5 EE in the small coop gone. Nothing but feathers left I guess a raccoon got the roof up and got inside. No blood or anything else around inside or outside the coop. Just lots of feathers. I knew I should have put a latch on the roof but thought its over 2ft off the ground and not very light in weight so never thought a coon could get in. So now the only bantams I have are my silkies. Going to put latch and d rings on everything plus buy me a live trap and see what I get.
