I painted for 10 hours today. I got the side and the front finished. I was beat after all that time up and down the ladder so I didn't get the lawn mowed. Or the house cleaned. Another day for that... I got injured too. :( I never thought about the ladder cutting me. Falling off, yes. Getting cut? Never.
Ouch!!! :hugs

The only thing I've heard from him is that he plans to get his computer soon and I shouldn't touch it.
I use Scott's Turf Builder on my lawn.  I read in Neil's Sperry's news letter that we shouldn't water the lawns right now due to the watering restrictions until Fall. At the rate my grass that I do have is growing that is fine by me. I need to mow it every 4-5 days right now. I don't have time for that so it is really long when I mow it once a week.

Nice!!

Yeah! It isn't all that small.

:yuckyuck

:D

Oh wow. Be sure to have some mustard handy in case they start to eat more eggs.

Did he tell you where he was staying?? I'm always curious to know what schmuck puts up someone for free... I'm assuming he is staying rent free-that is why he left hmmm???

Thanks guys! Ill be up late, trying to put all our produce away (every other saturday is co-op day and if I dont prep it all right away I forget about it). So ill keep checking on her. She was miffed about the bath, but let me dry her off with Kiera's princess towel. Lol!
Ive got the corn cut and put in the freezer, pickles going, pickled okra and peppers next. I stored some seeds out of a melon I got today. We're rearranging the kiddos room tomorrow, meeting with a sitter and hopefully couch shopping.
it sounds like im busy when I right it down, but I had time to catch up on Game of Thrones :p

Congrats on the eggs by the way!!!
I still get excited going to grab them.

When it is so dry it is better to let it grow a bit longer before you mow and not mow it real short, he helps to support growing and it isn't so taxing on it due to the heat. We had a corner lot in Houston and I learned so much about grass. LOL Now I have 5 acres and it is a mix of different grasses and it drives me crazy.

Hey it's looking good. I can't ever go out side and work without getting some kind of cut but it always seems to be on my feet..... maybe if I would wear shoes more often. As much work as you do, if that is the only injury then you are doing great!! You are one busy lady!!

My daughter was the same way. I was so embarrassed. I didn't raise her that way but she always managed to find someone to take her in. She did at times have a place of her own that she paid rent but those times were few and far in between. She even had her dad co sign a lease with her when she convinced us she was going to go to college.... that lasted a hot 2 months and then another 5 or 6 months she did pay her rent while she had a job and then she just quite. She knew it was in our name.... go on our credit and that we wouldn't let it go bad so she just screwed us on that. We didn't speak for a VERY long time. STILL drives me crazy. I tell my dad all the time make them pay rent. she is 25!!! I don't understand..... but it does make you feel like a failure, what did I do wrong. But it isn't our fault, they are adults. I joke and say it must be a gene from my X husbands side of the family. He signed away his rights to her when she was 9 and my hubby adopted her. She was 2 when he and I started dating and was 3 when we married so he raised her. It is hard but all we can do is pray!

You have been busy busy..... I have canned tomatoes and still have tomatoes coming off the vines I need to can and peppers. I finally pulled up my tomatillo plants as they had pretty much played out and I had canned enough salsa to last me 5 years. LOL Now my cucumbers are coming on strong so it's pickle time. LOL
And this was just a small starter garden.... next year it will be a BIG family garden to provide enough for my parents and his mom and aunt and uncle. Woo hoo!! LOL

Well fingers crossed today.....

hoping to get another egg today and maybe it will spread to a few other hens. I know I have a couple of RIR that are ready to lay just any time now. I just have to figure out which one of my Rocks laid yesterday. I think it was Daisy because the Colonel has been really after her. LOL wish I could get a camera out there but I know my family will think I am crazy if I do that. LOL

Good morning fellow Texans. We live on a ranch just west of Lampasas Texas where my wife and I raise grass fed lamb. We now have 5 black laying hens that someone traded as a down payment on a lamb. I will be building a chicken house, brooder and run as we hope to add more layers and start raising free range broilers. I also want to establish a free ranging flock that can come into the chicken house at night but maintain themselves mostly. We have an electric feeder with scratch that goes off twice a day about 50 yards from the chicken pen so I hope that will keep them coming back.

I am looking for the following at a reasonable price within an hours drive of our place.
1. Cabinet Incubator
2. Metal Chicken Nest boxes
3. Guinea keets
4. Games, Barred Rocks, Black Stars and Brown Leghorn chicks(No Bantams)

Thanks,
Ed Thomas

You might try Craig's list for your area, we have found a lot of stuff on there from incubators to live birds and everything in between. It is a good source.

@wilded ~ Welcome! I second A1's recommendation. Check Craigslist. You'd be surprised what you find on there. :)

Hey Kimberly! Look what I found!!

They were both still warm. The one on the left is from one of my BR's. The other is from one of my BA's. The BR's was in the nest, she took forever to pick one out. I was watching, LOL. The BA one was in the run. She was standing over by the grit/oyster feeders and there it was, right under her!!

The BA who layed was acting real nervous. She kept running around, looking up in the nest were the BR was and acting like a nervous Nelly. I found the egg under her a little later.

I don't think yesterday's layer is one of these. From what I've read, chickens lay an egg every 25 hours. So if that one lays today, it should around 1pm or so. But, who knows lol

Watcha doin in there????? The BR was getting really aggitated when everyone kept looking in to see what she was doing!!

I am still having trouble posting. It takes forever and keeps crashing!!!

I don't know where he is and he won't tell me and instructed his brother not to tell me either. He has a way of twisting the truth so I come out sounding like an ogre. I'm sure someone took pity on him for having such a mean mom and took him in. He can hold a grudge for a long time.

I mow my lawn at the same height year round - about 2-3 inches or so. My yard is too uneven to mow it any shorter. Maybe someday I can get some dirt and fill in all the low spots and get all the other mower hazards (tree roots) dug up and I can mow it shorter in the spring and fall. We've had just enough water to keep it really growing well. That should be ending soon here. Summer is here and with the water restrictions it should slow down. Now if the weeds would do that.... I want the weeds for now. Weeds are better than bare dirt in my mind.

I am frequently injured. I had the nick-name Grace at one point in my life.

Waiting for the day I can hold a warm egg in my hand. Congrats on the eggs. :)
I'm having trouble with Safari loading slowly still (just this site) but it doesn't crash.

I found a great playlist on Youtube when I was looking for something to have on to drown out the firecracker noise for Sasha. Really good mix of songs.

Taking the day off from work. 22 hours in two days is enough for this body. I have to keep reminding myself that I need to relax and I not go out and work. I will be cleaning house that may be enough to keep me 'still' the rest of the day. lol! I think I will bake something too. I'm in the mood for something with lemon.

I have just a few tomatoes. I need to put them up. I freeze them. I'm afraid to try canning.

Still need to do something with that squash too. :)

I'm a peeping egg laying tom too!! I saw my BR in the nest so I sat and waited...... and waited.... While I was waiting the Colonel got up on the top of the brooder area and was peeking around the door through the screen at me..... looking at me like... what are you doing>>> LOL I had to laugh. But I wanted to see who was my layer and it was Daisy!! So I marked it down in my book. So far she is the only one. Her eggs are small but they will get bigger. I am just so excited she is laying. But I have noticed that she doesn't sing when she lays. Maybe BR are not big singers. LOL I know I have a RIR that is ready just any day now. But for 2 days straight my little Daisy has made my day!!

I have started downloading audio books and listening to them when I am doing house work. I love it.
Don't be afraid of canning. It is supper easy. I have a canner but I have just been doing the water bath method. I put up about 8 pints of tomatoes so far, just blanching them to peal them, cutting them up, putting a tablespoon of lemon juice in the jar then the tomatoes and then topping off with boiling water. Then just put them in the water bath and let them sit there in the boiling water for about 15 minutes and they seal as they cool. Super easy. I love it.
I found a zucchini I have been over looking this morning and it is huge. I think I am going to make zucchini bread. I found a lemon zucchini bread recipe I wanted to try but I think I burned my family out on lemon for a while with the cake the other day. LOL
