Wow Laurie!
You were busy!

Harley, catch any raccoons??

I'm trying to re do may backyard a little. Nothing huge.
We're going to try and transition to the nesting boxes, so I'm repainting it first.
It was an old weathered red, I'm painting it a "French Blue"....lol
Then I'm tearing down that little pen..because it's falling apart. Lol.
There was a tarp on top that ended up catching all the rain we had a bit ago and just bent the whole thing.

Wish I could work on that now instead of working! Bleh
You're taking down the dog run? What are you going to do instead?

Has anyone else started laying?

Not the entire run, just that little mini run inside.
I used it for the big girls when they were small, then the Silkies.
Now it doesn't serve a purpose and it just taking up room.

No one else is laying yet! I don't mind.
I'd rather get Pearl used to the nesting boxes, so that when everyone starts, they'll know to go there.
Who knows..I could have hidden eggs in the yard, but I don't think so.

They haven't been strictly in their run for awhile...
The trees on the side provide more shade and shelter when it rains. So they've been backyard birds. They even let themselves out in the morning and in at night...so low maintenance.
Although..the cleanng is not lol

It's not going very good!! Darn PBR are mean to my babies! Most of the RIR just peak a go on but the other ones they attack the silkies! The rooster silk mire than the hen!! What am I going to do??? I guess I need to start looking for a small coop and run just for them! How can I make one easy and cheap???

The boys say just keep trying but I can't stand seeing them attack poor Cluck Norris like that. They are putting all his Ninjia skills to the test!!

Would anyone be interested in a proposition?

I'm trying one last breeder, but if I have to, I'll be ordering some chicks from Ideal.
I don't NOT need (nor do I have the space for) $25 worth of birds.
I'm willing to bite the bullet and pay for extra chicks AND shipping, if someone would be willing to take them.
Dallas area, but if you want to travel, that's fine.
I can order whichever breed/combination you like.
I just want a few Salmon Faverolles.

I have not gotten the traps yet but when I do I will let you know

New trap is very expensive. Big trap to catch coyote may run $350, so some places have option for rent.

We have A Star is Born. Below is Charlie taken last weekend, at 3 mos old. He chatted and learned to roll over. Enjoy Charlie Production

You could use netting and those green garden stakes. I bet if given time they will get along.
Are chickens like fish? You add new fish at night with the lights off and in the morning no one knows there is a new fish in the tank (for the most part). Can you add the silkies to the coop at night after the big ones have gone to bed and in the morning they think everyone in there is ok to be there?

Oh, that is so tempting..... I just can't right now though. Did I mention the paint for the house and garage cost $500?!?

I believe you! 2 Gallons of exterior cost me $85! lol
The breeder in OH got back to me. Total would be $130 for 8 chicks w/ shipping.
I really can't spend that much..but they're SOOO gorgeous.
She's the one w/ Sussex, Faverolles, and BLRW.

Here are her pictures, and her website (just in case..don't want to misrepresent)

I was excited to see this; however I want standard Cochins, which aren't available at Ideal until the fall. My daughter lives in Richardson, so it would have worked for me otherwise. Sorry I couldn't help.
My 4.5 week old babies have destroyed their cardboard brooder. In two days have tipped two full gallons of water! Plus their brooder is in the coop which records temps of 85-90 in daytime. I've been carrying them to a separate run, but trying to catch 17 chicks, not fun for this 62 yr old grandma! So today they joined ranks with the 6 4 month old biddies. There's been a little pecking in the yard but no blood. I cut escape holes into their brooder so they can leave it but run back if they are being bullied. I felt even though they are young, there's 17 of them and only 6 of the older biddies. Hope it works!
