Hey when my start laying you can use a few of them to see how it goes. Some of them will be black sex link chicks!! Maybe look on Craig's list for incubators. Or someone that has silkies for sale and raise you a broody.

I have a white Silkie! Her broody genes are what I'm banking on, because she's not super sociable and they're not supposed to be stellar layers.
I didn't handle her as much as my big girls though, so that's probably why.

I was just talking about chicken budgets..

And my boss called me in and told me I got a raise! Second one since I started last September! $4k more a year!

I don't. I'm technically not allowed, but I would try one with a collar.
I got rid of both my roos before I knew about the collars.
I'm super picky though, because I don't want my girls mistreated and I have small kids.
I hear amazing things about Faverolle roosters, and they are SO pretty.
If I hatched one out I'd keep it.

Just got back from lunch. I work just a few blocks from home and we get an hour so I usually go home on my lunches.
Found out Eloise, one of my 2 BOs, laid that pretty pink/brown egg the other day, and Freya, by BR, was sitting where Pearl usually lays! They're picking up fast!
Got Eloise's and Pearl's eggs put up, then I'll grab Little Hawks and Freya's when I get home!

Almost filled up a carton to gift!

I've got a turtle named squirt and another one named crush!! Love this movie!!
My new marans are named after the girls in the sequel to Sarah, plain and tall. That's a really fabulous book Keiki and I read and then watched the movie together. The sequel is called skylark. The girls are Sarah, she's the head of the littles, Anna, and Cassie. The other one I can't remember, but we just call them the littles!

Did you see the third movie? I was very disappointed with it.

Ok I know Laurie post recipes all the time so I thought y'all might like this one. Well that is if you like Lemon.
I made a Lemon poke cake the other day. It was simply a lemon cake mix made per the box in a 9x13 pan. Right before I took it out of the oven I mixed to gather a can of sweeten condensed milk, can of coconut cream and 1/2 cup lemon juice. When I took the cake out of the oven I poked holes ALL in the cake with the end if a wooden spoon. Covering the cake with holes, then pour the milk mixture over the cake filling the holes. Then I spread a thin layer of lemon curd over the top and placed it in the frig. The next morning I whipped up some heavy whipping cream and spread that over the cake. Now when you cut into it you find these little pools of ice box pie down in your cake! Yum Yum!!!

Oh that looks so good! I wish I wasn't allergic to it. :/

Ugh, I love his selection!!!
They are out of my budget though.
BUT! I've devised a plan
I'm going to wait until next Spring, then I think I'm going to try my luck at hatching.
I'd love to just get a bunch of egg of all those different breeds and hatch them out.
Although I guess I should practice with cheaper eggs first.. hmm..
Maybe it's not set in stone but it's a start! lol
I hope I get a broody next year!

Maybe I will be back on my feet then and we can go together on an order.
