Texas

Okay so today is my Birthday. Was kind of depressed did not want to do anything, but my DS had a baseball game, did not want to go at ALL, wanted to stay home. I have to say now I am SOOOOOO happy it was today. It pulled me out of my funk and made me realize as much as I hate getting older, I LOVE watching my kids grow.

For some reason my "decade" birthdays don't bother me, it is the ones that end in 5, they REALLY get me down!!!!

Also, today I ordered 10 new chicks from McMurry, hopped on another order from a girl at work to help with cost. SUPER excited, they get here May 6ish. Can't wait!!!!!! Nice Bday present to myself

Thank you! I got 3 Speckled Sussex, 3 Black Austorlps (I know I am spelling that wrong but can't remember), 2 White Orps and 2 Buff Rock. I kind of got pushed into it, LOL, she asked what I would I want, then sent me a email with price and that she had ordered them, LOL! Since I moved the girls around I will have enough room at first but now I need to build another coop for just laying girls. However, that will open up my smaller pens that I can use for breeding

Once I get my layer pens going good, I can start with some breeding, maybe.....thinking of those silked Ameracunas!!!

Can anyone on here give me some tips on hatching turkey eggs? I have been reading everything I can find. I have hatched tons of chicks, but never turkeys. I am using a Brinsea Eco 20 incubator and hatcher.

Happy birthday! Just remember when your birthdays get you down each new year means a new adventure(s). We are always learning and experiencing new things. Getting older just means we can get away with more again.

That there university would be Texas A&M....yeah, they do poultry projects and quail projects and....quite a few varieties of livestock projects. **giggles** Oh my that made me laugh so hard. Thank you for that. I was starting the day off grumpy, it's much better, now.

Kilsharion--- how long have you lived in Texas? ;-) I have an A&M roo that I'm crossing into a layer project. I am hoping for Super Layers!! I am going to try a couple doz of the hatching eggs this year too, but again they will have to be crossed in. My egg customers want "Farm eggs", in other words, not white. I wish you could get ahold of some of their Meat chickens. YUMM!!

Sudden drop in temps here in Dallas, keep 6-wk old chicks inside coop shelter?

Yesterday it was 83, this morning it's in the 40s (feels like 35). Should I keep the girls locked up in their coop shelter today? They're still having a hard time understanding the concept of the ramp: they know how to go down in the morning, but still haven't figured out how to go up at night. Thus, I'm concerned if it gets too chilly for them, they might not figure out how to go back in.

Thanks!
