she's been a fantastic dog.. we are really going to miss her and how much she loved the other animals under her care. She was one of those dogs who was 1 in a million

OOoooh, hon

The sky is crying for her. What a great day for her to pass the veil, though. Getting exactly the kind of rain we need, on a wonderfully developing spring, things coming to life and green all around. The rain softening the ground to receive her body and well and truly take it in to itself. You could plant a small Rosemary (remembrance) in the spot where you bury her. Prostrate is gorgeous and doesn't become a big, ol' bush. I know you'll miss her.

Happy birthday, hon. It's never been my birthdays that bother me. It's been my son's birthday; and, now days, my grandbabies. Grandbaby number 10 is due around my birthday this year....Like you, I love them to death - especially because I got to bypass the whole "rearing them" thing and was able to go straight to grandma (I have six step-children and, obviously, 9 step-grandchildren). It's absolutely awesome. I wish you could adopt grandchildren...that's totally the way to go. You get to experience their good sides and send them home for their bad sides

.

Thank you! My DD asked me when she gets older if I will be a Grandma, I said will if you have kids of your own I will. So she asked what I would be if she did not have kids, I was not sure how to respond to that. LOL!!!!!

Happy Birthday (on Sunday) TattooedKeeper3!!

I think I got my exercise in early this morning. I was working on the computer when I saw something flash on our security camera. I looked and there were 3 dogs in the yard and my girls were free ranging. I went tearing out the door (barefooted) screaming my head off. I ran them out of the yard (two went one way and one went the opposite). I found 7 out of 8 and herded them into their outer pen. After looking for Lena and not finding her, I got in the car to go hunting. I now have an idea where the dogs live. The owners will be getting a visit from me and a warning. By the time I got home Lena had come out of hiding (wish I could find that spot). They will be staying in the outer pen for the next few days!

Lisa :)

they have a sale every month.. plus Kifaru in lampasas also has one every month.. but with Kifaru it's larger animals on Saturdays (deer .. buffalo.. goats.. mini horses).. with "small pets" everything from hedgehogs to coatimundis and birds) on Sundays

So for those that have been to these, are they a good place to get animals? Do you get a decent price?

it can vary from month to month depending on who they have bring in birds.. some months they get large consignments in from other states or from the bigger breeders. So variety and number of animals / birds can vary. There is a vet on site.. so all birds have been tested.

as for price.. that can vary as well.. it really depends on how badly other people want the same birds that you want (bidding fever.. lol)

Any time I have gone to the auctions (Kifaru mostly) i got animals and tack a lot cheaper than I would have anywhere else. For exotic birds/animals.. a lot of the pet shops will go to Kifaru to get critters below wholesale prices so they can sell them in shop.

for the exotics.. some are imported from Mexico. (all paperwork is in order and everything is legal).. Others come from breeders here in Texas

I am glad your dear husband is with you during this time of grief.

When my husbands first dog died, I made a shadow frame with his picture, his collar, and a copy of the Rainbow Bridge poem. To this day (8 years later) it still sits in the top of our closet, he just can't bring himself to look at it, but it makes me happy knowing it is there and remembering what a wonderful dog he was.

I am sure most of you have seem this, but wanted to post at a time like this, http://rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm brings tears to my eyes and warms my heart each time I read it or even think about it.

sounds like a party in the making!

I should get a zebra....there's no deed restrictions against zebras. Just deed restrictions for horses and cattle (one for every two acres). I think a zebra would be a wonderful addition....

I'm joking. I don't want a zebra; but, I do see that they have Nigerian Dwarfs scheduled to be there.......

Oh....and Mike started on The Broken Yolk, yesterday:

And, thought y'all would find this amusing:

Buffy is our "blonde". Almost seriously. She's a buff coloured partridge. Beautiful plumage. I'm actually considering trying to see if I can breed it; but, yeah....I have enough projects....no messing with that. Anyway - she's also our most....clueless...chicken. Eventually, she did find her way out; but, yeah. Too funny.

Longer than anywhere else in my life. Considering all the places I've lived, that's saying something. Yeah, yeah - also consider where in Texas I live....we just moved to GTown in December. Otherwise, it's been Austin. That's part of why it cracked me up so much.

But, we have quite a few on here that are relatively new to Texas, so...wanted to make sure any of them might not be unknowing as to what university he was talking about.

BTW - bit of trivia that really doesn't matter to anyone except my husband.......his family - three of the four lines - goes back in this area to pre-Texas days. And that fourth line was here pre-Texas, they just bailed and went to Oklahoma two generations before he was born. We find it too funny. His great-great-grandfather owned the property that the Texas capitol building sits on. His family cemetery is ~15 min north of us in Jarrell, Texas....his family donated the cemetery to the town to use. Just absolutely amazing...I see all these bumper stickers of "Born in Texas" or "Texas Native" and I want to giggle. Hard to believe my husband wound up right back in his family's stomping grounds without ever planning it.
OKOKOK, I was born and raised here, and I know about A&M, but I had no clue what yall were talking about, What's the skinny here?
