LOL!!! This made me laugh about the cat food. My cat is still trying to figure these gals out. The brooder is in our garage at the moment and my cat goes out there to "investigate". I know he would kill them so when I take them out I shut the door to keep Tom (my cat) out of the garage.
Cat food is full of protein more so than dog food thats why dogs shouldn't eat it and chickens like protein and anything else that moves or is eatable.

Some of the yard roosters have found their way up there tho. So I try to feed them when the roosters go to bed. My outside cats are somewhat afraid of the roosters cause when they tend to gang up on what the cats have to eat forget it the cats leave. The cats also tend to keep a good distance away from the gang of Ebdlem geese. I am sure the cats would eat chicks if they could get to them. Our little duck hatched out 2 of the African Goose's eggs 2 days ago and I got them from her and they are in the brooder cage with the baby chicks who love them dearly as they are so soft and big and fluffy to snuggle up next to. Just won't take the chanch of letting anyone raise their babies until we have a Hoop coop for them built. Thats on the list to do.

Tatooed Keeper, I think that my little guy crowing this early is a bit unusual. And I think it may be because he is exposed to my serama roos. Also, it sounds nothing like a full-grown crow. It's more like a whistle. He does it standing on his perch, over the sleeping pullets, and he even puffs out his little neck feathers, just like the seramas. I told Yall he was studly...

Does anyone in the GREATER houston area have anything hatching around next weekend? i am getting some silkie chicks and would like to beef up my layers as well since ill be firing the brooders back up. not super picky on breeds, just wanna add some more layers to the flock. ANd i say GREATER cause i might be willing to drive a bit depending on what the options are.
