Texas

yinepu...you look alot closer on the map than i thought! google says less than 3 hours, 150ish miles...not a crazy distance in texas terms, lol

atleast to me, and i drive about 120 miles a day just to and from work

it's funny... when you say something like "only 3 hours drive" to people in other states.. they freak out like you're living in another country or something... yet here in Texas it's no biggie!

Yeah, she isn't all that far...35 whole min for me **snickers**

Btw, work is now blocking BYC. And, my keyboard crashes on the site using my phone. So not so many posts from me anymore. ** cries **

a whole 35 minutes!!!... ACK!!!.. that takes FOREVER!!!

i wonder if they saw where you were spending all your time.. ?

im waiting on the day myself! like i said before, i got flagged by IT because the firewall we run decided that all the little banners and adds are malicious threats....so now i use an entirely different browser(firefox) strictly for my BYC chitty-chats!

but i got galanie, chicklette, and littlewing not far from me! gonna start forcing us into sects i see...Little Wing has him a big bator now too!! BTW, hows that thing holding temps ken? might need to borrow the plans from ya if your works well. i think i want to build one instead of buying one....but who knows, lol!

do any of yall use broodies?

I have hatchery birds.. they don't believe in going broody.. (at least this bunch doesn't)

But I have 5 turkey hens that are trying to sit on top of each other right now in an old busted up quail cage (not the brightest bulbs).. no idea how many eggs are under them.. but they'll get evicted soon cause I smelled a rotten egg in there earlier today!

besides.. I don't NEED any poults this year.. probably gonna butcher everyone but my Sweetgrass pair.. and maybe a Lavender hen ...

so was rumaging around the farm this weekend and came across and old plastic goldfish pond, just laying out in the field! it is pretty big...oddly shaped as they are its hard to put a measurement on it, but its about 3 ft deep in the center! So i pulled it over near where my coup is and saw grampa and asked if this was anything waiting to be used, he told me he didnt know what it was and that if i found it then its mine! lol!

so the plan over the next few months is to dig this bad boy into the ground (or mound up around it, not sure which yet) and build a pen adjacent to my chickens and hopefully be able to get some ducks and maybe a goose or 2! but would also need some sort of coup as well...hence why i said over the next few months, lol! im not good enough to through up a coup in a weekend...took me and 1 other about 3 hours to fix the door on my coup now!

but depending on size, could i house ducks, turkeys, and geese together?

Yinepu how is your husband doing? I know you were showing him off at the 'flea market' over the weekend.

You had mentioned he went to the doctor last week. (Are we allowed to ask that question?)

Lisa :)

Cool!

today's incoming mail:

24 Ameracauna
24 Bantam Frizzle X (possibly) Silkie
12 Silkie X
4 Silkie X Ameracauna (one survived shipping)
4 Buff Laced or Gold Laced LF Brahma X Bantam Frizzle Cochin / Silkie
2 green Silkie / Cochin / Brahma
2 mystery eggs
4 older, end of season Sebastopol eggs (probably infertile.. but I can't complain since they were free)
and from another source.. 7 Toulouse eggs

I still have 6+ Mandarin, 6+ Bresse, 20+ Euskal Oiloa, 18 Ancona duck, and 6+ Dorking eggs that should be here eventually (in transit).. course I may have forgotten a few.. lol.. I need to check my list!

I nearly had a heart attack. You said you put up a "run for the kids" and a toddler was in the picture, and, for just a moment, I thought "What kind of people am I talking to here?" Especially when I read that "One inmate escaped".

Then I sat down like a good girl and stopped jumping to conclusions until I read the entire post.

She's a cutey, and your chickens look happy in there.

It did seem that way, too funny!

lol.. I have a pinioned turkey that has been living with my geese, pekins, muscovys and cayugas from day 1.. he tries to bully the muscovy drakes a bit now that he's older and it's spring... As a baby he had a few issues with his feet.. So I pinioned him and just left him with the waterfowl. He's due to go to freezer camp in a few weeks.. he's a "runt".. has problems with his feathers and looks like hell.... and probably should have been culled at hatch.. but he was a fighter.. so I let him live knowing he would be a freezer camper when he was big enough.

Mine are just penned.. no roof or netting over the pen.. and no house for the summer.. I'll make something for them this winter in case the sebies want to get out of the weather. My muscovys are pinioned.. so no worries about flying

If it's a large open range situation they will all be fine together (but you may have to do something with the turkey's wings to keep them grounded)
If it's just a coop and run.. you MIGHT be able to get away with them all together.. but you're almost guaranteed to have a few problems during turkey breeding season.
