Texas

Do you know what kind that is? It does look kind of similar to these, although some have more red and some are more light yellow, but as far as I can tell all of their wing feathers are coming in really light yellow/white.

i would say golden sex links...meaning 2 red breeds were bred together to produce offspring that are sexable at birth. the little cockerals will hatch with different markings allowing for them to be separated day 1. Most are very hardy birds and eggselent layers!

Are there any other instructions on a dry hatch that DON'T require monitoring air cells? I've explained before that that won't work for me. I just would like to know how to run the incubator correctly.
The Genesis 1588 uses water put in the bottom plastic tray for humidity. The bigger the puddle (surface area, not depth of puddle), the higher the humidity. The control panel measures the humidity but doesn't control the humidity - that can only be controlled by how much water you put into the plastic tray. Which is not very sophisticated or accurate, if you are trying to be precise with humidity control. I added an after market water pump to ours, cuz I can't stand that pouring water into the tray mess. So far it's doing well. Will know more in another couple of weeks if these eggs are fertile.

If you want to try dry incubating, just don't pour any water into the plastic tray in the bottom until the time you stop turning the eggs. Then go ahead and add water into the bottom tray for hatching.

Chickens hatch eggs all the time and they don't have temp/humidity sensors or controls and they don't monitor air cells. You don't have to monitor air cells with weighing the eggs/candling, but without doing so, there isn't a way to even guesstimate what is going on in there. But you don't even have to do that. Just depends on how much work you want to do for the hatching. I know some of these old breeders don't do nearly as much work as us newer people do. They say simpler is better.

Have you had a problem incubating before?

I will be shocked if it passes in Texas.. the cattlemen were some of the biggest opponents of it last time.. they don't like being told what to do with their cows!
That's why I can't figure out why they suddenly filed these bills anyway. They are poorly written and don't look well thought out. I just get the feeling that someone had an agenda and that's why they did it again. Thing is, when it went through the senate committee, it got approved. So unless people say something, it could get approved just because no one has heard that it on the table again. I hadn't heard anything about it until another chicken breeder told me. That's how stupid crap gets passed, no one hears about it until its too late and the politicians vote yes on things even if they don't know or care about them because it's easier to go with the flow if everyone else say "ok, let's pass it".

No it isn't just a federal thing - that one hasn't gone through yet.

Some TX wingnuts just filed bills again on this subject and it is making its way through both the TX house and TX senate. It hasn't been passed yet so telling your rep to vote against it is a good thing!

Not to mention, just because something actually gets passed doesn't mean it can't get repealed if enough people throw a hissy fit.
I will throw as much of a hissy fit as I can. Not sure what my fit would do but, who knows, maybe it would be the straw that broke.

I was told mine were Golden Sex Links.
We don't like being told what to do in general...I think it's in the DNA.
Or maybe it is in the dirt. I've noticed even people who move here start not liking being told what to do.

That's why they move here - cuz they know there are more people here that don't like being micromanaged to death, LOL.

Although as far as hubby and I - my ancestors came over on the Mayflower and fought in the Revolutionary War. Hubby's ancestors settled TX and helped fight the Mexicans to form the Republic of TX before TX was even admitted to the Union. So for us, it really is in our DNA. :)

Well 1116 now! No way can I read it all, hehe. Looking forward to joining the convo from here on out!

Thanks! I don't know what I have! They were sold as "mixed pullets." My friend that raises chicks is taking a guess at either red or golden sex links...whatever that means :) Here is a pic, go ahead and join the guessing pool!

Welcome!

I see red or golden sex link here. Anybody else wanna weigh in?

thats about what i would say as well, or some prduction reds. Lots of eggs from those gals!! have heard that those are some of the sweetest chickens around too! well done!
Embarrassing... I should read before I type. You would think I would have learned that from Yinepu earlier this week...
