Texas

We actually had rain last night! I am so excited, things were starting to look really really dead. My chickens were all born in May and June so they have NEVER seen rain .. I do not think it is going to be one of their favorite things!

Two more crowed this morning.... so out of 10 chickens, so far.... 5 have crowed ... thats 50%, I wish that would be in the end of it but I really think 2 or 3 more are roosters. Which would leave me with only 2 or 3 chickens. I know I am going to want a couple more (2 or 3 doesn't seem like a flock). This time I am just going to bite the bullet and order the minimum 5 chickens from My Pet Chicken and pay extra to have all girls. My heart breaks whenever I have to think about getting rid of my little boys - They are so easy to get attached to and the boys are so much fun to watch - they seem to have the biggest personalities!

Anyway, If anyone has ever ordered from My Pet Chicken, I would love to hear how it went. Or if anyone knows of any place closer to San Antonio that would sell me just a few SILKIE girls. Ideal Poultry is in Cameran, which is only a few hundred miles from here, does anyone know if they sell sexed silkies in small quanities to be picked up?

Thanks
Kim

I ordered chicks from My Pet Chicken this past May. They were the most expensive chicks I've every bought, (with the shipping & all)
BUT they were healthy, good looking, some breeds I couldn't get in my area and MPC does a good job of shipping. I'd order from them again for sure,............ but I can't make a habit of it.

All of my chicks (up til this year) have come from the feed stores that are close by, and they all get theirs' from Ideal Poultry. I don't believe Ideal will ship less than 25 chicks. One feed store I use will sometimes be able to put my chick order in with theirs. They'll let me pick out what I want and then they sell the rest. But that's only in the spring, as none carry chicks except in the spring.
I've also ordered directly from Ideal, their prices are very reasonable and they are excellent shippers.
Which ever place you go to, be sure to look for the "pullets only" button to click on. Stay away from the 'straight run' button and you'll have a lot fewer roos!!
www.ideal-poultry.com is their website plus they have good one on one phone service to help with questions.

Hope that helps some.

I have ordered less than 25 chicks from Ideal .. it's just at a different price. When they send out an email on a special they are offering, they always say "Must order 25 chicks" or something like that because if you order LESS than that, the price is more per chick.

at any rate .. I got 12 D'uccles from them in August.

Has everyone pulled out your winter coats? Its gonna be freezing tomorrow!!!! 59 degrees! Brrrrrr.
