Texas

Hi all, I'm in Waco, I'm having a heck of a time with squash bugs and grasshoppers this year in my garden. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem. And would guineas help with the squash bugs. I tossed a few over to my hens and they gave me that "I'm not eating that thing " look and just walk a way. Thinking about trading a few of my buff silkie for the guineas. Only looking for 3 or guineas. But if they won't eat the squashbugs I may as well keep spraying 7dust.
Thanks

Yes, I'm having the same problem, but I'm out towards Madisonville/Bryan area. My chickens wouldn't eat them either. I'm going to get guinea hens as well. I lost my whole crop of zucchini this year. I'm hoping my eggplants will survive the onslaught as well. My 6 yo was doing a great job of catching and drowning the bugs, but its gotten too hot for her. I'm doing everything I can to avoid using any chemicals, especially my little ones(3 daughters) wander through the garden and graze on whatever they can find that's ripe.

*sigh* I attempted to make a grow out pen/quarantine pen. It was an epic failure. I am so not good with tools.

Anyone bored and wanna make me one? Lol.

if you find any takers, i could use one too!

Hi there! I am new to group and getti g my bearings. I'm back and forth between Houston and Bellville. We have a coop on Bellville with 5 chicks. Just converted our loafing shed to a coop. We lost one of our beauties in a chicken on chicken issue last night. Anyone have a suggestion for a camera system to install that I can view via Internet?

from Rosenberg, TX! (Don't you pass the Texas 10 Spur on the way to Bellville? Wave next time if you do, we are a mile off of it)

Sorry about the loss of your chicken. We have a Uniden system that works pretty well for us. You have to play around with it in getting it set up.

the heat is sapping people's IQ, i swear! dealing with fed ex during work today has been like trying to run a daycare...its rediculous!
The only idiots I've run into today have been the chickens. But then I've only been at home and Home Depot. It should be illegal to be this hot and muggy.

Wish I could slap some sense into the 2 month old chicks. After all this time of me going into the pen to dump out yesterday's water, put a frozen water bottle into their watering bucket along with fresh water, they still flip out and start flying around acting like someone is trying to kill them. At this rate they're gonna kill themselves flipping out like idiots in this heat. Already lost a hen that went broody and wasn't eating/drinking in this heat.
