I actually cooked homemade dog food today. Husband will roll his eyes when he comes home. I had dropped off two at the vet to see the cardiologist and needed to get more dog food. I occasionally question what I am feeding...why the dogs sometimes just flat refuse to eat it...how do I know what the best food is for them and what the heck is in the bags anyways and where are they getting their ingredients (the few that I can actually tell are real food items on the label) so I did some surfing and found a reasonable, simple and easy to prepare recipe with variation on the meat veggies and carbo and I will transition to it and see how it goes. Three of my four are senior two have heart issues (they are cavaliers and thats a given) one has bladder stone issue. So controlling the sodium is important (in both directions) and making it digestible for older dogs.

Just putting it out there. I am about 1 hr from san angelo and a couple of hours from Midland Odessa area. I have some gorgeous extra Marans roosters if anyone needs them. Not show quality but very pretty black and splash from dark eggs if anyone needs them. I have no qualms about eating our extra roos but if someone needs them they are awfully nice. It looks like I will have some extra Swedish Flower Hen roos as well but its kinda early to tell. These are all roos I hatched this season.

how is everyone? no one feeling chatty today?

just busy... lol

I spent all yesterday shoveling out the coops and runs, disposing of everything and then dipping all 49 birds including the spastic guineas to treat for a persistent lice/mite/flea attack that came from some new chickens I adopted. I have tried all the natural methods and its only gotten worse, so finally had to bite the bullet and use pyrethrin :( If you've never spent 6 solid hours chasing birds through a 4 foot high covered run - its a blast - NOT, LOL! Today I am finally building a pallet coop that has been promised to my adult birds since moving them temporarily into an XL crate. I am so hot and sore and tired....ugh!

And this is why I don't bring in "strange" birds without isolating them to a quarantine pen well away from the other animals for at least a month

that month gives you plenty of time to check over the new birds for parasites / disease.. even so called "healthy" birds can be carriers of issues which may not show themselves until the bird is stressed (which moving to a new environment is stressful especially for older birds).

Just wanted to let those of you who were interested in the chicks I'm hatching out, that it looks like I have around 14 out of 19 developing on day 13, they should hatch around the first! So excited!!
