Texas

I have a couple of 2 week olds and some in the bator now. A BCM roo got to my White Leghorn hen the other day so I am going to wait a week or so before setting any more of those. I don't ship chicks and with only one hen it takes a while to get enough to ship. If you are going to be out this way, let me know and we can work something out.

I will. I am sure I will be out that way eventually lol

Looks like a roo pen to me!

So anyone done any bumblefoot surgery before? I been studying and reading up on it all morning. Im feeling pretty confident in the procedure as its simple enough, but swallowing my guts to actually do it is where i am noe

I've done it a few times best advice i can give is make sure your knife is very very sharp and make the x cut big enough to get the cores out :) Good Luck!

Okay so 2 things, one I need advice on the other is just an observation.

I am down to 3 Cubalay Roosters, can not find them a new home for the life of me. The problem I have is, they are 7 weeks old and I have to get them out of the house, but they are used to the cool 72 degrees we keep it. How or can I get them used to being outside? I put them out in the coop at around 7 pm each night, but then bring them back in, in the morning, since I can't be at home during the week to keep an eye on them. Next week we are not supposed to get over a 100, should I risk just leaving them out? Or keep doing what I am doing?

Next for the observation, like I said i am down to just these 3 boys and they don't get "free rang time". When I had all my birds and they got free range time everyday, I had fire ants EVERYWHERE, you could not stand in one spot for more than 30 seconds without getting attacked several times. Now that I don't have free range birds I notice that I have a TON of ant lions (at least that is what I have always called them) and my fire ants have gone down significantly, we still have them but not nearly as bad. I guess the chickens were eating the lions that kept the ants in check, now that they are gone, the lions are back and are doing a great job. I wonder if I can buy more on-line, LOL!!!!! I may just start an ant lion farm instead

Hi there! Noticed today that my organic (10# bag re-sacked from the original 50# bag) starter feed is infested w 1/4 inch sized dark red/brown bugs. Thinking they are weevils. Put it in the feeder anyway since my girls love bugs... Of course now I am second guessing myself!! Anybody got anything on this topic? I would just call the store but it being Sunday, they're closed.

It's really bad this year! We have been fortunate at our house! In the past we would add garlic powder or brewers yeast to our dog/cat food and it seemed to work. Can chickens handle those in there food?
Looking forward to your post and best of luck in irradiating those pests!!
