Good Morning from Bastrop,

Quick question since you all sure know your chicken information. My daughter started raising chickens, was doing great (18 eggs a day) and wham, we were wiped out in by a evil den of raccoons. Oh well,  thats a different story. Lets just say we learned a lot, and with a slight investment in lead have defeated the first wave.

We are rebuilding our flock and wanted to ask for breed recommendations. We focus on eggs, have had good luck with Red Sex Links, Americanas and a few mutt chickens. Thoughts? And if anyone is near Bastrop and needs any help just shout.

Thank you all for your time and the great information you share.

Cover all openings in the coop with welded wire or hardware cloth and be sure they're in and locked up at night. Sex links are a great choice if you want eggs.

Good morning everybody!!

I woke up with a sore throat, and yes it literally feels like I am breathing fire. Stupid allergies.

Hard to understand how you could walk in on people burglarizing your house and were yet not inside it. But really, learning about them and how to shoot them does give you a respect for them and a perspective that is different from someone that never has.

I walked into the garage, they ran out the side door and tried to take everything with them that they already had laid out, including our TV. There were several of them......hope that clears up how I can walk in on someone burglarizing our home.

I do need to become more familiar with a gun, and have considered getting a CHL.

I personally would recommend the Naked Neck otherwise known as the turken, they are a duel purpose heritage breed that can get quite large but very friendly/ somewhat flighty large to extra large eggs very hearty easy to handle immune to cocci take free range and confinement well and have 30%-50% less feathers so takes heat very well but also hearty in cold as well! Downside... They can be quite ugly! Lol but their personalities are great! 300+ eggs a year and dress weight for cockerals at 5 months is 5-6 lbs

There is a lady on Hwy 95 that sells Black Cooper Marans. I've bought 4 from her, month old pullets for $16, each. They were and are healthy. I'm hoping by Thanksgiving they will be laying those super dark brown eggs. I think there is another person in that same area that has EE'rs, too. They both list on Craigslist/Austin.

Liposomal Vitamin C can be made with lethicin and ascorbic acid in a jewelry cleaner. It will blast that pain right out of you. Allergies used to keep halfway dead most of the year. I gave up eating all grains and I do mean ALL. I very rarely get the sniffles any more and if I do I just whip up a batch of the vit. C and I am good to go. Between that and bone broth I have not been sick in years. If you have some good marrow bones and a crock pot, fire it up. Hope you get to feeling better.

She has EEs too! That is where we got our blue copper maranas roo. When we were there she had S.S. and Wellies too. If you are looking for something, I would give her a call.. more than likely she will have it.
