Texas

I may have marked my calendar wrong but I was supposed to be hatching out little chickies yesterday and they are late. I should probably just sit tight, but I noticed this morning that the rest of the broodies got back on schedule and there were eggs everywhere in there this morning. I tried marking them with pencils but the hens wear it off fast. Eggs look like they have been polished by a week. Has anyone used permanent marker? I am afraid of the toxins but maybe it is not that bad for the egg. Any thoughs?

I know moving the broody would be the best option but most of the time it is a community affair with my silkies. I do not worry about one giving up because another is always happy to start sitting. I think mine are broody more often than laying!

I've had shipped eggs sent to me marked with marker...they hatch so I guess it's fine

Thanks. I bought some new markers today with this purpose in mind, but I wanted to get some feedback before I did something potentially fatal to the developing eggs.

:thumbsup    Excellent video--loved the music.  I always loved a happy ending!

Advocating the destruction of a species or class of animal is really pretty offensive.

According to TEXAS SNAKES, A FIELD GUIDE written by Dixon and Werler (2000), from 1978 to 1995 the Texas Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, reports an average of one death a year from venomous snake bites.  "These  figures hardly classify venomous snake bite as a high-mortality occurrence, at least in the United States.  Outdoor hazards more likely to cause human death in Texas are the stings and bites of insects and arachnids, lightning strikes, hunting accidents involving firearms, and drownings."  (Page 5)
I'm offended by people who find everything offensive. Can we move on please? No one was seriously advocating removing every rattlesnake from the planet. You posted your point of view. We don't all agree. Now lets talk about something else.

My property, my right to kill what I like on said property. If I deem it fit to kill rattlesnakes than so be it. If I deem it reasonable to move them to another habitat so be it. Personal preference. You can't sit here and tell someone how to run their property...

Quote: I did it about 4 years ago, worked great, lost a lot of weight, but it had a side effect that after 4 months, I was not willing to do anymore and once I stopped I gained it ALL back. Now I eat paleo foods, started back in March, I "cheat" on the weekends but am still losing weight, feeling great and best of all, not hungry and never feel unfulfilled.

I use a Sharpie marker and have a 100% hatch rate with no issues.
