What is that style called nowadays.....ROCKABILLY! I totally wanted a Rockabilly outfit last year. LOVE the halter top type dresses. Too bad my upper arms are gross.

Rockabilly! Yup, that is how I dress most days, though more like the Fonz, in a tomboy manner. I wear comic book shirts (think Sheldon on the Big Bang Theory lol) and jeans cuffed up at the bottom like a greaser from the 50s, and Converse All Stars. When I dress up, I always try for Donna Reed lol.

Hello everyone. I lost 23 chickens to a dog attack this past Saturday. It was horrible. My neighbor's dog got out of their yard, pushed my gate enough to get in and attacked my chickens. My bestfriend came home while the dog was attacking them. He killed 15 meat birds 3 bantam Cochin and 5 blue laced red wyandottes. He killed my two favorite foley blue laced red wyandottes. The police came and made a report and animal control came and took the dog. I was at work when it happened. I talked to the officer who was at my house and o course he told me to talk to my neighbor and work things out. I spoke with the owner and I was trying to tell her all I've lost. And she said she had some fines she had to pay because of her dog being taken to the pound.I was rrying to resolve the problem but she told me to talk to her husband but as far no one has made the attempt to contact me. One of my chickens was inthe alleyway when I got home and I saw them taking pictures. Ao I went to my backyard to call her. All I got from my neighbors was dirty looks. I don't want to take them to court, but what else can I do?

There is nothing worse than a pet owner who is irresponsible. I live in the sticks, and our dogs are not fenced in, but they NEVER leave our property (we have 20 acres). The big one is a naturally protective breed, so she stays close and the dashchunds won't run off far without backup. They can be mad all they want too, this is NOT your fault in any way. THEIR dog was on YOUR property. Suing em is gonna cause hard feelings, but if they won't talk to you then you may not have a choice. They were probably trying to take pictures to show that your chicken was not in your yard. I hope you have pictures of your other birds. And I hope your best friend can vouch for the fact that the dog was in YOUR yard. Around here, if a dog starts chasing someone's livestock that owner can expect the dog to be shot at; peppered with a shotgun at the least. That's just how things work around here. I am so sorry you lost your birds. That is horrible!

People with dogs that are irresponsible just burn me up. I had my fill of crazy dog owners when I was a letter carrier for many years. I swear many of those people were crazier than their dogs were, and that's bad. Never forget the one lady that called my supervisor to complain that I hadn't delivered her mail and her dog was tied up. And she's right, the dog was tied up... to the mailbox post!

WOW! Stupidity knows no bounds.

If I caught a neighbors dog attacking my chickens I would shoot it. Shouldn't have been on my property attacking my birds. Keep your dogs in your own yard. But people will not take responsibility for the children they have, so how can we expect them to be a responsible dog owner?

I feel ya. Last year two of my neighbors dogs killed 13 of my chickens l. I was out of town but my son was home and asleep at the time
He broke his toe trying to gwt out the door to shoot the dogs. He got off a few 9mm pistol rounds and the dogs ran off. I have four trail cams around my property to monitor predators and I had pics of the dogs on them so I knew whos dogs it was. I did not want to create problems with my nieghbor about the event. I prayed and asked God for a solution. The next day both dogs were hit by cars and killed.

I would say that if the pound kills the dog, that is the best you can hope for. I did a lot of research about suing over chickens ans found that most courts don't want to hear the case and the ones that do will only give you about $5 a piece per bird that was lost. It just is not worth it to sue.

Same here. I had some dogs kill a couple of mine while I was in the city and had it ever happened again, I'd have shot the dogs. Even in the city. I'd rather the ticket for discharging a firearm than helplessly watch my flock being killed. Happily it never happened again but I'm ever on the alert for strays. So far in the 2 months I've been here I've only seen loose dogs once, and they were simply trotting down the street as though they knew where they were going, and it wasn't here. I found it interesting that one of those dogs only had 3 legs. I had to think that if there were loose very often on the highway then no wonder.

Our pen is pretty dog proof- the big dog weighs 160 lbs and the little dashchunds are diggers. We had to lay cattle panel around on the ground under the walls of the coop and run to keep them from digging in and make the bottom part of the run out of plywood to keep the big dog from pushing in. I hope that will be enough to keep everything else out. Not to mention our dogs will attack any animal that comes on our property. The little ones are meaner than the big ones on that front. She is very protective of us if we are outside, but that goes mostly toward other dogs and humans.
