Texas

Here in southeast Texas we have had nights in the low 20's this week. It is probably nothing to most folks, but for us piney woods peeps, that's COLD!! I am glad to see it warming up a little.

I don't have a good answer for you. There are a few threads on BYC with Texas Shows listed but they are not very complete. I hope someone has an answer.
I seem to hear about shows by following this thread... Ft Worth is this weekend... La Grange coming up March 5 .... Austin Funky Chicken Coop tour April...

I think I remember that the Texas Chicken stock was in May of last year. I had just gotten my babies and just missed it but the pictures looked fun and I hope we have one this year because I will definately make that!

Welcome and when you get a chance, tell us a little about yourself and your chickens.. what kind?, how many?, pets?, show?, food?

Hi, everyone:

I'm fairly new to BYC and I'm glad to find this thread for us Texans. I'm up here in the "big" town of Bogata, between Mt. Pleasant and Paris in NE Texas. I just got my first chickens last Spring, and I admit I'm now hooked! I'm up to around 60 chickens now, counting my Black Star sexlinks I bred for egg production. I also have silkies (whites, blacks, blues, and splashes), RIRs, Barred Rocks (seven of the world's most spoiled hens), cochin bantams (gold laced, red, buff, white, black, some frizzled), a pair of Sultans, and Dutch bantams. I have to say the Dutch, which I just recently acquired, have been the most pleasant surprise! They are friendlier than the cockatiels I used to have. Every time I go into their pen to feed, etc., they demand some "hold me" time, and if one thinks it's getting shortchanged, up to my shoulder it goes to make sure I love on it a bit. My silkies and cochins are friendly, but nothing like these guys! Does anyone else on here have Dutch? If so, I'd love to know about your experience with them, where you got them, what colors you have, etc.

Thanks for the info Gallo... I thought of another way to get info on Shows in Texas... Join the Austin Backyard Poultry Meet Up Group... I noticed recently they have been posting the Texas Shows. ... Thats how I found out about the Ft Worth Show. It looks like they are planning to have a little meet up at some of the shows... might be a good way to meet other people who like chickens...
There is probably someone on here that know more than I do about the Austin Group and I hope they share better info.
