For the 3rd or 4th night in a row below freezing! Single digits yesterday an the past 2 nights. Should make it into the teens tonight! Busy getting a good cover of beeding down. My geese prefer staying outside even in the snow. They prefer having some hay between the snow and their feet, though. Wondering how those guys in the Great White North manage? (Used to be one, but no birds, just dairy cattle and they spent the winter indoors). Have to put off setting eggs until the possibility if rolling blackouts are finished.
The Goose Local is making daily formal complaints. Conditions are not up to their usual standards. We are somehow directly responsible for it. Ponds, pools, head buckets all frozen solid and no one is moving to do anything about it. It's unfair, we are told. It's supposed to snow again tonight or tomorrow, but we won't get the 5" we got the other night with the ice. So they stand upon the frozen pools of ice and look at us with eyes full of questioning. and accusation.
Had a broody goose year before last who got a heat lamp. She had 2 other geese laying in the same nest. She had been on that nest for almost 2 months. She needed the extra warmth, too. Lessons learned.
Cold! Cold! Cold!
