I started reading up on chick care today. I found this article that seems to be pretty informative. Is there anything wrong with the advise here? Is there are better way to water chicks so their water stays cleaner?

How do you ferment chicken starter feed? Same way as the adult feed?

I've seen recipes that blend all kinds of grains and stuff, is this necessary? Is Purina chicken feed good to feed?

What about the vaccination recommended?

My coworker just showed me a photo today of her new water system. It uses a five gallon bucket, pvc, tubing and those little red "water cups". It looks something like this:

The BEST feed is one that your chickens will eat and not waste. I have noticed that my chickens do not care for the larger pellet size. I have fed Texas Naturals and recently Nature Wise and they are both pellets, but smaller size. I have had zero waste with both. Even when it ends up on the ground they eat it. With the Dumor and Layena They would knock it ALL out of the feeder and just leave it on the ground.

Also, make sure that your feeder is placed up high enough so the smallest bird can just comfortably get their beak in to grab food. That cuts down on the swishing it out of the feeder, too.

Has anyone made kale "chips"?  I tried but they turned into kale powder. 

I've made them before! They need to be watched very carefully in the oven or they can get too dry and will change into that weird powdered kale, haha!

That is neat Tammy. I plan on having 4 chickens. Anymore than that I will be overflowing with eggs. Wonder if a scaled down version of that would work....

I like this idea (scroll down a bit) for watering. I think I will try this. Plus it is really easy to make and clean.

What do you think if the 'prickly' matt idea?

She also has a feed recipe that I would like to try, but I don't have storage room for all that or the budget for it!
