I think I will like them too.And I have 6 more to try out in the future.
It is ok to one of each species, right? My mom thought it would better to have just one or two kinds. I told her they would be fine.
I'm going to get a 5 gallon bucket from Lowe's and put a nipple spout on it for them. I was reading someone's thread about a spout they got that mounts horizontally and does not drip. I need to find out what kind it is and where to get one.
I guess my EE will be hatching SFH's then.I will get my SFH hen that way.
I am so excited!
I need help building my coop and run. :/ I don't have power tools and with my 'gracefullness' it is best I don't use them. I want to keep all my fingers!
Delaware chickens lay medium to rich brown eggs.
For five chickens the easiest way to "make" a coop is to buy a premade one and put it inside a 10x10 dog kennel. Some also come with a cover for shade. It's will still be vulnerable for animals digging under it and we have had a neighbors dog actually rip through the chainlink to get to a rabbit, but it is easy and fast AND moveable.
You can always build a larger coop later and keep the small premade coop as a broody coop.
Oh, and it is fine to run chickens of mixed breeds together. Some ARE meaner, some ARE flightier but I've even run pigeon size bantams (Porcelains) with Jersey Giants with no issues.
