Gorgeous!! I have a Maran, but she hasn't laid in 4 months.
Congrats
Is it a pullet's 1st egg? If so it will probably get darker after a few more eggs?
I love my Welsummers eggs. My chickens have almost quit laying the last 2 weeks esp. this last week with all the rain & cold
Christmas is coming up, they know. Mine have all but stopped laying again. And no one is laying in the nest boxes. All in the horses hay piles. I now have to many to keep them penned, lol, so it's an Easter egg hunt every day! My only other Maran is a roo, but he's a gorgeous blue copper. *sigh* no pretty dark eggs for me.
but it's no longer in my yard, I use to find eggs in the feedroom, the 2 stalls, the wood garage + the chicken coop now nothing
I know a few of them are molting but not all of them
We have a strip of woods behind a horse pen & the railroad track but its so hard to find anything in those woods
I have 20+ AG's that I know some of them have to be laying somewherebut it's no longer in my yard, I use to find eggs in the feedroom, the 2 stalls, the wood garage + the chicken coop now nothing
I know a few of them are molting but not all of them

It is a pullets first egg, but I think they get lighter over the course of the year, then after molt they get darker again...if my memory is correct. I have two 4 month old Wellies and I'm excited about their eggs too. The last welsummer I had gave speckled eggs and they were beautiful. Maybe they will surprise me around Valentines Day.
My chickens have been on a laying strike for over a month but then, on my birthday last week, one EE'r started laying every other day again. Not bad for a five year old hen.
Our family/friend just left about an hour ago and I am BUSHED!The hubs is in his armchair snoring and I am ready for bed too!!
I have 1 Game hen (my favorite) that is laying everyday but hardly any of the others are. My Bk Orp is laying pretty regular still.I have 20+ AG's that I know some of them have to be laying somewherebut it's no longer in my yard, I use to find eggs in the feedroom, the 2 stalls, the wood garage + the chicken coop now nothing
I know a few of them are molting but not all of them

I actually took a video tonight of our horse eating an egg. So now my suspicions are validated.
A horse eating eggs that's wild.
