My new pen is almost done! Setting up an 8x8 breeder pen for some silver spangled hamburgs... Got everyhing but the netting on it today!

ETA: Does anyone want a Pekin drake? He will be a year old in April. He's the last of my ducks, and he's terrorizing my free range hens. He's currently living in "the bad boy coop" with all of the roosters bound for freezer camp. When he's got girls he's a real gentleman, and will help them find nests/sit on nests when his girls go broody. Unfortunately, he's the only survivor of my sitter leaving the duck door open... Believed to be coyotes, because they took EVERYONE. But, yeah, if anyone wants him PM me. I can deliver within 50 miles.

You guys, I am so proud of Blue!!!

I got done doing my rounds and came in the house, ate supper, showered, the whole shebang. The entire time I was in the house, Blue was barking. Something he only does if danger is lurking. I kept peeking out the windows and turning on the outside lights, nada. weirdest thing was Titan and Trixie didn't head for the woodline when I opened the back door, so I was highly confused. Bark bark bark in the same spot! I headed out armed with a light and a bat... I thought maybe he'd found another armadillo, because the barking didn't move. Nope. He was standing over a group of 20 or so 4 week old chicks. They were hiding in a tarp just a few feet from the "toddler coop". I don't know how I messed my count up that bad in the toddler coop, or how they got out... But I do know that as soon as he saw me coming with the light he laid down and cuddled up against them, as if to say "Finally! What took you so long?"

All the babies are up and Blue is happily asleep on the coop steps, QUIETLY, guarding his birds. Guess I should have listened to the high pitched bark aterall, because I almost didn't go out when Blue's backup stayed in the house. Good dog!

Blue is a found on the side of the road as a mangy wormy puppy. Vet thinks he's out of someones hog dog, possibly a catahoula x pit. I need to post a picture of the savior and his birds when I get the chance... He spends all night guarding them.
